The casino king Sheldon Adelson upended the U.S. political stage early this year, contributing tens of millions of dollars to Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. "I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich," he told Forbes. Adelson can afford to throw his weight around: His fortune is up $21.5 billion in the past three years, more than any other American.
