HPC Advisory Council to Host Spain Supercomputing Conference 2012


SUNNYVALE, Calif. & BARCELONA, Spain, July 02 -- The HPC Advisory Council, a leading organization for high-performance computing research, outreach and education, will host the HPC Advisory Council Spain Supercomputing Conference 2012 at the University of Malaga, Malaga, Spain, on September 13th, 2012. The conference will focus on High-Performance Computing essentials, new developments and emerging technologies, best practices and hands-on training. The conference will bring together system managers, researchers, developers, computational scientists, students and industry affiliates for cross-training and to discuss recent HPC developments and future advancements. Please make sure to register early to ensure your seat at the conference.

The conference will focus on the following topics:

* High Performance and Parallel I/O

* Communication libraries: MPI, SHMEM, PGAS

In conjunction with the HPC Advisory Council Spain Supercomputing Conference, the Spanish Supercomputing network will be celebrating its 6th Users Meeting on September 12th -- co-organized by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and University of Malaga. Both institutions will offer their experience and provide a brief overview of the European technology platforms in the area of HPC, a presentation of the Mont-Blanc project, as well as an explanation of the development of quantum computer simulations using supercomputers and the main benefits of task parallel frameworks.

"Continuing our successful international conference programs, the HPC Advisory Council Spain Supercomputing Conference is expected to uphold our tradition of providing rich educational content, taught from some of the industry's most recognized luminaries and scientists," said Gilad Shainer, chairman of the HPC Advisory Council. "High-performance computing is critical for enhancing science, research and product development. Our conference attendees will gain the knowledge on how to best leverage high-performance computing for such activities and how to better leverage HPC system capabilities and improve productivity and efficiency."

About the Spanish Supercomputing Network

The Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES)

Coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the RES is an alliance of 8 organizations distributed throughout the Spanish geography which, since 2006, work together to offer a High Performance Computing service to the scientific community. The main objective of RES is to provide a general purpose high level service of supercomputing, and celebrate with an annual user meeting that allows the RES to get in touch with end users and comprehend their needs and the Science they need to investigate. About Barcelona Supercomputing Center

Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputacion (BSC-CNS) hosts the supercomputer MareNostrum. It also counts with well-known supercomputing research groups that develop tools for the academia and industry.

BSC focuses its research areas in Computer Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences and Computer Applications in Science and Engineering. In the context of this multi-disciplinary approach, BSC counts with more than 350 researchers and experts in HPC (High Performing Computing) and 100 of those are from outside Spain.
