When arcade racers get it right, they can make you feel like a driving legend, throwing your supercar around the track with the precision and grace of a vehicular deity. It's all about style, poise, and the screech of tyres.

Ferrari GT 3: World Track knows that, and in spite of the shortcomings of the hardware it finds itself on it still manages to create the perfect atmosphere of burning rubber and growling, highly tuned engines.

Red ones go faster

The meat of the game lies in the Career mode, which sees you racing through a variety of tracks from around the world, earning fame and coins and participating in challenges as well. Pressing '4' and '6' turns your car left and right, pushing '5' unleashes a boost of turbo power, and '8' acts as a break.

You build up your turbo by performing drifts, overtaking opponents, driving in their slipstreams, and avoiding collisions. The better you drive, the more you'll be able to boost, and the farther you'll get ahead of the pack.

Drifts kick in automatically if you take a corner at the right angle, and you'll need to learn to control them, tapping '4' and '6' to keep yourself on the track if you want to hit the finish line first.

The challenges you complete give you extra coins and fame to spend on souping up your car and buying more powerful models, but they also walk you through the basics of the game, increasing your skills and preparing you for the tougher races to come.

Drift control

Races are tight and fast, and clipping a roadside obstacle or hitting an opponent can mean the difference between a podium finish and limping in last. There are plenty of different Ferraris to unlock, all with their own strengths and weaknesses.

There are shades of Out Run in the wide tracks, blue skies, and of course the vehicles you'll be thrashing around the globe-trotting tracks.

Sometimes collision detection is a bit off, and there are sections when the track splits and you're dragged in the opposite direction to the one you were heading in, but these are minor niggles in a game that's more than worthy of wearing the famous prancing horse badge.
