The lights are on
When I arrive at work, the first thing I do is answer reader emails. One of the most asked questions (outside of "When does the next Super Replay start?") is "What games are you currently playing?" I'm hoping this new blog – which I plan to update weekly – addresses these questions, and also gives you an idea of why I'm playing each game – in my line of work, game playing isn't all about entertainment. A lot of time is dedicated to research. Here are the games I'm playing this week. More

I'm a huge Judge Dredd fan. I've read most of his comic books (including both of DC Comics' series in the 90s), and appreciated roughly three minutes of the movie starring Sly Stallone (it all went to hell after he removed his helmet). DNA Films has a new reboot on the way, slated for theatrical release on September 21. Karl Urban steps into Dredd's boots, which means we'll actually understand what he's saying this time around. The always fantastic Lena Headey (playing Ma-Ma) is his target. She apparently makes drugs. You can get your first look of Dredd and Ma-Ma's feud in the trailer below. More

I honestly have no idea what is happening in Dragon's Dogma's story. The only semblance of a plot I've come across is a dragon stealing my heart and people showing me that their palms glow. Both of these things seem important, magical, and a tad bit strange. I should point out that I'm 25 hours into the game. Both of these revelations came within the first hour of my quest. More
Dragon's Dogma joins Journey, Max Payne 3, and Mass Effect 3 on my Games of the Year candidates list. I'm having a blast exploring this dangerous world, and can't wait to see what the end game holds for me.
This is a great week for games. Diablo III and Max Payne 3 are already here, and come tomorrow, we'll be able to play as daredevil scientist (yes, you heard right) Chuck Darwin in Adult Swim's Extinction Squad. More
This iOS game focuses on the preservation of endangered animals in the most ludicrous and ineffective way possible: by bouncing them to safety on a trampoline.
I wasn't excited about the possibility of a fourth Spider-Man movie until a friend told me that Kirsten Dunst wasn't going to be in it. That bombshell of red-headed knowledge changed everything. I'll now be in theaters on day one (July 3) to see how the web swinger fairs in a Dunst-free world. More

Take a seat, BioShock Infinite. Better luck next time, Borderlands 2. My most anticipated game is Diving: Jurassic Monsters. I know nothing about it. My excitement stems solely from the screenshot pictured above. The game is currently in development at Biart, a studio that specializes solely in underwater video games, and is slated for a 2013 release. Their portfolio includes Depth Hunter, Fish & Reefs, and Deep Black (slated to release on Xbox Live tomorrow). More

I couldn't fall asleep last night. Rather than diving into another episode of Deadwood (I'm on my third viewing of season three), or another game of MLB 12: The Show on my Vita, I decided to surf Apple's App Store for a new game for my iPhone. I noticed that Infinity Pocket's Flick Home Run, a game that released last November, had crawled into the number four slot for Top 25 Free Games. The reason for its late surge up the charts is a new "power update," which adds five new game modes, 28 achievements, and new fly ball speeds to the mix. More
So long, Fairway Solitaire, I now have a new addiction to pass my time.
I'm a Cubs fan. Go ahead and laugh. More

If you are an aspiring game creator with an affinity for the undead, you may want to think twice about making a zombie game for the iOS platform. If you search "zombie" in Apple's App Store, you'll uncover hundreds of games that have "Zombie" in their title. I jotted down all of the "Zombie" games that appeared in one search. Almost every sport has been zombified at least once, and a surprising number of animals have waged war against the walking dead. Below is a list of over 250 different Zombie-named games that are readily available on the App Store. More

No one stays dead in Star Wars. Boba Fett escaped a sarlacc pit. Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin are ghosts looking to party (last seen celebrating the love with ewoks on Endor). Even Darth Maul, the sith apprentice who was chopped in two and tossed into a deep well, is alive, well, and kickin' Jedi ass with a yellow version of himself. More

Last weekend was a little nuts. On Friday, my friends made me drive to my local movie theater to reserve seats for a Saturday showing of The Hunger Games. I've never done this before. I stood in line for numerous midnight showings, but I've never had to "pre-order" a seat. More
My friends don't like discussing films with me. I'm hoping you guys are up for a healthy discussion about this spring's biggest release. The talking points are...
