Two killed in West Knoxville crash

KNOXVILLE - Two people were killed early today when their car crashed in West Knoxville.

A 2000 Toyota Camry ran off Middlebrook Pike near Weisgarber Road about 6:21 a.m., entered the center median and struck a tree, according to Knoxville Police Department Lt. Robert Hembree.

The driver, Joshua C. Hurst, 24, and passenger Bailey D. Booth, 17, both of Knoxville, were dead at the scene, according to Hembree.

Traffic reconstructionists and investigators are continuing their investigation.

Very mean comment. The real idiot is the one who's so disrespectful that he'd speak in this manner about to young people who died in the last 24 hours.

Putting people down makes you feel better about yourself...eh?

Ladytiffknee writes:

Prayers for friends and family of these two. You look at the ages and think they could have had so much more living to do and at least a chance at a bright future.

heatherknoxv writes:

I know the mother of the 17 year old so it is very heartbreaking to read such rude and mean comments when obviously you have no idea what happened. Why can't you just say a silent prayer for the families of the deceased and keep your vile comments to yourself??? I guess some people were never told "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all". My prayers are with the families of these two young men and I'll even say a prayer for the heartless who like to run their mouths on here.

Unfortunately young people drive too fast because that is the way their parents taught them how to drive. If parents, men & women, would obey traffic laws, their children would be more likely to obey traffic laws also, and there would be fewer fatal crashes like this.

So are you blaming this accident on the parents?

Many young people enjoy risks/thrills and are too immature to grasp the consequences. I know I drove like a fool when I was young in spite of my parents good driving examples and training. Only by chance nothing bad ever happened. I don't know the details of this crash but I do know speed kills and young people take risks.

As a general rule, two people don't die in a car wreck when going the speed limit. I'm not mean sprited. I have teenaged drivers in my home. But I cut them out day after day after day. The universal truth is "speed kills". Go take a Physics class and it all makes sense. I'm sorry for the loss of two more young people...

I. 90% of the comments I read on here are mean and disrespectful. All we can do is Thank Knoxnews for giving us the freedom of speach. Many knoxville news forums are more stricts because your comment has to agree with the article or gets removed, or you have to be nice or gets removed. That's why i like this forum better. I read some of the meanest comments but knoxnews respects each members opinion and we have our freedom of speach. I guess is good but is bad sometimes when other members abuse their freedom of speach, but after all this is America and we are allowed to express our opinion even if its something mean.

II. people online put other people down. that's just how it works in this world. example, Foxnews puts down the democrats. CNN puts down the republicans. so I see what you're saying, but that's the way it is.

III. my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, family and friends.

IV. God Bless America and our constituion

V. Have a nice day! =)

Yes, parents are mainly to blame for their children’s driving habits. Open your eyes while you are driving and watch the speeding cars, cars running red lights, cars running stop signs, etc. How often do those cars have kids inside? They see how Mom & Dad drive and they are learning. If Mom & Dad drive this way then it is OK.
Parents need to wake up and understand that they teach their kids by example. Most will make it through their young driving years, but too many don’t.

I just happened to be driving by there this morning. I saw a gentleman with tears in his eyes reviewing the crash scene. I can only offer my prayers to the family and friends. It would be easy to hook a tire just off the road and hit a tree there. Again, thoughts and prayers for all affected by this tragic event.

It is so sad to hear about this. Although I knew neither of them, I went to school with one and the brother of the other.

My thoughts are with all families who have been affected. If they were anything like those I know who they were close to, the world has lost a couple of great people.

Chadn writes:

Condolences to the families. The loss of those who have yet had the opportunity to find their places in the world are a tragedy and should serve as a reminder to all of us how fragile life truely is. We never know how long we have...the only choice is how we live each day.

100% correct. I would rather have the freedom of speech and wade through some of the mean spirited garbage than to not have freedom at all. With that being said, prayers to the family. No one should ever have to bury a kid.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I believe your reference to putting down the Republicans should have been MSNBC.

CNN is reasonably neutral with only a tiny tilt to the left, unlike Fox, who fell of the right wing cliff long ago.

I've read through the comments and everyone can guess all they want and lay blame on others all they want, it doesn't solve anything. I feel for the families of these two boys and I will pray for them, that they may be helped through this tragedy.

However this accident happened, or what caused it, if the truth is ever known, there are two young lives who will never be able to change their driving, or be able to grow up.

For those who are bringing political arguements into your comments, you should be ashamed.

There are people who drive too fast just as there are some who drive too slow, which is also dangerous. It doesn't make it any easier on the families. I'm amazed at the lack of human compassion for the people left to deal with this tragedy.

TINY BIT TO LEFT???? cj, CNN is as left as fox is right. When have you ever read stories about corruption form the left on CNN. Hear about the Virginia journalists getting beat up by BLACKS and their own newspaper covered it up? hear that on CNN. Nope. Fox didn't make it up either. Sad your kind can't, won't or are too ignorant and stupid to see both sides. But on the other hand, KNS won't allow comments on gay Barney getting married to a guy, which your president is o.k. with, but KNS allows us to bash God all day long. Sounds like free speech to me. But I got banned for saying obama endorsed men kissing men, which is part of marriage. Guess KNS allows vivid details of a priest's fantasy but we have to sugar coat gay lifestyle and not disclose what men do to each other...even though obozo is happy with that. sad

In addition, although not offensive enough to warrant their removal, other individuals have posted comments that appear to serve no other purpose or function than to point blame at either the deceased, the parents of the deceased, or anyone or anything that will only cause further hurt to the family members and friends of these two young people who have passed away far too young. While I believe in and support free speech and believe that it is each person's right to compose and post whatever he or she wishes, even those individuals who are so cruel and petty as to seemingly take delight in writing malicious, hurtful and petty comments that serve no purpose whatsoever other than to highlight the pathetic nature of those who choose to make no positive impact on this world except to serve as a reminder to others exactly the type of people we do not want to become - those with dark and twisted hearts who hide in the isolation of their homes and write malicious and inappropriate comments that are designed to do nothing except hurt and humiliate those who are having to live though one of the worst things a human can endure - the death of a loved one, especially a child. Yes - this is your right, but how sad it is to think about all of the countless numbers of veterans who gave up their lives defending this country so that we may have the right to write anything we want, no matter how mean, selfish and hurtful. Sadly, this is a tragedy as horrible as the untimely deaths of the two young people because it is absolutely just as senseless.
