SUB TRAINING

Those interested in becoming a substitute teacher with the Knox County Schools can take weekly training sessions through Aug. 1 from 8-11:20 a.m. or 12:30-4 p.m. at the Sarah Simpson Professional Development Center located at 801 Tipton Ave. Space is limited.

Using skills, materials, and strategies designed by STEDI, an effective substitute training program, the local training sessions are designed to equip substitute teaches to handle classroom behavior situations, be prepared and professional, teach students with special needs and more. ONE-OF-A-KIND

Learn to paint at the Spirited Art studio, 5072 Kingston Pike. Upcoming classes include "KnoxVegas Baby" for adults 18 and over at 6 p.m. June 24 for $35, "Sweet Treats" for kids and teens at 1:30 p.m. June 24 for $25 and "Summer Fun" for the whole family at 6 p.m. June 24. LEGAL WANNABES

Sixth- through 12- graders who have an interest in law careers can get an early start with weeklong camps offered by Kids U through the University of Tennessee. "Innocent or Guilty ... How Do You Plead" is for grades 6-9, from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 25-29 at the UT Law School. Students will learn how to prepare a case for trial, as both the prosecutor and defense attorney, learn basic courtroom procedures and rules of evidence and then practice with a mock trial setting. Class fee is $99.

"So You Want to be a Lawyer" is for students rising to grades 10-12, from 1-4 p.m. June 25-29 at the UT Law School. Students will learn about the theories and practical aspects of the American legal system through interactive classes and hands-on team exercises and experience what it's like to interview clients and present a case in court. SCRAP ON

Make six coordinating scrapbook pages at Scrappin' in the City at 6 p.m. June 26 or stamped cards at 6 p.m. June 27. Both classes are at the store, 777 N. Hall of Fame Dr. Attendees of the June 26 class will stitch, stickle, punch, cut and more. Class fee is $30. Attendees of the June 27 class will be stamping, dry embossing, wet embossing and punching 15 stamped cards. Register at http://scrappininthecity.com/ or by phone at 865-247-6879.
