    Brad Pitt’s mother pens anti-gay marriage letter

    Apparently his mother doesn't share his views.

    In a letter to her hometown paper, the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader, Jane Pitt writes that Christians, like herself, should not refuse to vote for Mitt Romney just because he is a Mormon. The published response to an earlier opinion in the paper describes President Barack Obama's opponent for president as "a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality."

    Jane Pitt's letter continues:

    Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama—a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.

    She concludes with, "I hope all Christians give their vote prayerful consideration because voting is a sacred privilege and a serious responsibility."

    The newspaper even verified the identity of the letter's author in this editor's note: "To clear up earlier confusion, the News-Leader has verified the letter writer is the mother of actor Brad Pitt and local businessman Doug Pitt."

    Brad Pitt worked with George Clooney in the play "8," a YouTube-streamed reading that charted the proceedings in the federal appeals court hearing that deemed Proposition 8, a California ban on same-sex marriage, unconstitutional.

    Pitt has been vocal about his support for same-sex marriage.

    Brad Pitt told People magazine in 2011: "No state should decide who can marry and who cannot. Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage."

    Well, this could make for an interesting discussion should Brad and Angelina take their kids to visit Grandma Jane in Missouri.

        Brad Pitt's comment that he and Angelina will marry when everyone has the right to marry is just a weak excuse to not marry her. The next thing you know, he will say that anyone should be able to marry anyone else no matter what their age is.

        I think people do care, when a celebrity shares a similar opinion or belief. Its when a celebrity has an opinion that disagrees with our own when we decide feel compelled to make statements like "Why can't they just shut up and act."
        Unfortunately, celebrities fall under the category of "human" and get to have opinions, passions, beliefs just like the rest of us. And if they want to use their money and fame to fight for causes they personally believe in, conservative or liberal, thats their right.
        We don't have to listen. If we do, it's because we want to.

      Mrs. Pitt is entitled to her opinions, just as Brad is entitled to his. I hope no one reading this article is silly enough to believe that when family members have opposing views they no longer love and respect one another. What a shallow and inaccurate view, if so. True love means allowing each other the respect and dignity to hold views that don't agree with mine. And for those of you trying to make this hate speech, it simply is NOT. It is, however, an honest, sincere statement of her personal beliefs, to which she is entitled.

      That really isn't anything new. Heck, my dad is a fiscal conservative, mom is an independent, I lean liberal, brother 1 is a social conservative, brother 2 is a liberal, and youngest brother is an independent. There are issues we don't agree on BUT we still like each other :D We just agree to disagree :D
