'Persona 4' fighting game will be region-locked on PlayStation 3

Persona 4 Arena

Thinking about importing Atlus' upcoming fighting game set in the Persona series? You may want to think again, as Persona 4 Arena will be region-locked on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Atlus says.

That's a rarity on the PS3. Unlike its competitors – and previous PlayStations – the system was designed to be largely region-free for games, meaning PlayStation 3 owners can play almost all...

THQ to honor 'Darksiders II' pre-order DLC for GAME customers

Darksiders 2

THQ Australia is honoring all Darksiders II pre-order DLC bonuses purchased through now-defunct retailer, GAME Australia, the publisher announced today.

GAME Australia had offered those who pre-ordered Darksiders II a free DLC pack titled 'Deadly Despair'. The retailer went into liquidation last month, meaning that it will be unable to fulfill this pre-order bonus. THQ Australia stepped in today and announced that it will be honoring the DLC bonus for those who email their receipt of their original pre-order from GAME along with a new pre-order receipt from any other retailer to: enquiriesau@thq.com.

Once THQ receives this, customers' 'Deadly Despair' code will be sent out in the days following the launch of Darksiders II.

Don't despair, Darksiders

'StarCraft II' fan builds arcade-style custom controller with 29 buttons

Starcraft 2 Fightstick

Real-time strategy (RTS) isn't a gaming genre known for its hardware — fans of Command & Conquer or StarCraft are more likely to care about keyboard shortcuts and pointer precision than the details of physical gamepads. But that's not to say that a custom controller can't be built. In response...

'Minecraft' 1.3 combines single-player and multiplayer

Photo

The next update to Minecraft, version 1.3, is set to change the game's fundamental structure on August 1st, developer Mojang announced today.

Single-player Minecraft will no longer exist on its own; instead, it will live as a "shell" atop the multiplayer mode. This sets the stage for the modding API, which has been pushed back to the 1.4 update, and makes it much easier for Mojang to fix bugs.

However, this change also means that "the game needs to be able to both simulate and emulate the world" during single-player gameplay, an exercise that increases Minecraft's system requirements. The studio is working on optimizations to rendering,...

The current generation PS3 Slim is the 3000 series, which features a less power-hungry Cell processor and is also lighter than the original slim model, the 2000 series.

The FCC filing relates to the console's internal...

'Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes' review: dynamic do-over

Lego Batman 2 main

The first Lego Batman had issues to rival the Dark Knight himself. It was the first stumble in Lego’s cute, kid-friendly line of brand reinventions, tripped up by bland level design and a lack of iconic scenes to draw from for the series’ trademark dialogue-free humor. I swore off Lego games for the next few years after Lego Batman.

Now, after a four year break, the caped crusader is back to seek justice for past misdeeds, and much has changed on the streets of Lego Gotham.

Lego Batman 2 address all of its predecessor's biggest problems and serves as the most significant step forward...
