How to use S Beam on your Samsung Galaxy S3

One of the most exciting features announced with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is S Beam, which uses near-field communication (NFC) and Wi-Fi Direct to send files between two phones.

Android 4.0 already has a feature called Android Beam, which works over NFC to transmit information such as contact details and browser pages from one mobile to another. But it doesn't use Wi-Fi Direct, so it's impractical for large files.

By combining NFC and Wi-Fi Direct, S Beam is capable of sending large files between phones, such as images, videos and music tracks. The transfer more

How to use motion features on your Samsung Galaxy S3

With a host of unique features on the Galaxy S3 such as S Voice and AllShare, Samsung is looking to stand out from the rest of the Android crowd. Less documented among them is motion control, which allows you to do various activities through tilting your handset and making use of shortcuts.

To activate motion control, navigate to Settings > Motion, and toggle the switch to enable it. As there are a lot of motion features available, you can choose to use individual ones and leave others that you're less interested in disabled. Here are a few that you should

Open a URL in Chrome for iOS using Mobile Safari

One downside to iOS is the fact you can't set default apps for various actions. This problem was once again pushed into the spotlight last week when Google released Chrome for iOS. Users of Chrome on iOS are not able to set the popular browser as the default browser on their iPhone or iPad. It's frustrating to say the least.

Until Apple decides to add (if it ever does) a default app functionality, users will have to rely on workarounds. One such workaround allows users to open URLs being viewed in Mobile Safari in Chrome for iOS thanks to Jon Abrams.more

Getting started with Google Docs for iOS

Getting started with Google Docs for iOS

Google announced at its annual developer conference Thursday that it's bringing Google Drive to iOS devices. Google Drive was released soon after the announcement. It's a free and universal app, designed for both the iPhone and iPad.

I've been waiting for Google Drive (and Google Docs before that) to come to the iPhone for a while now. Many times when I'm in the grocery store, I wish I could quickly access one of the many recipes I keep in Google Drive. While Google Drive for iOS fulfills this need of quickly accessing a document to view, more

How to browse Incognito on Chrome for iOS

Google just wrapped up the second keynote in as many days at Google I/O 2012. Today's event was focused solely on Chrome and Apps and brought some great news to iOS users (how ironic) who are fans of Google's Drive and Chrome products.

Both Google Drive and Google Chrome are now officially available for iOS devices running iOS 4.3 and above.

Google brought its popular Incognito features to the iOS version of Chrome, along with many more features we won't go into here. Incognito mode, as we showed you on the Android version, allows you more

Getting started with Apple's Podcasts app

Getting started with Apple's Podcasts app

Apple made mention of a standalone podcast app earlier this month, but most figured it would arrive with iOS 6 this fall. Not so. Earlier this week, Apple released Podcasts. It's free and universal, designed for both the iPhone and iPad.

When you first launch the app, you'll see the Library view, which features two columns of large tiles of your podcasts. Any podcasts you have previously subscribed to in iTunes get pulled in. There are two buttons at the bottom, labeled Podcasts and Top Stations. Tap the Top Stations button to browse popular podcasts by subject. At more

Save maps for offline use in Google Maps for Android

Save maps for offline use in Google Maps for Android

Shortly after the Google I/O keynote yesterday, Google rolled out a list of app updates, one of which was an update to Google Maps. In the update, Google enabled the ability to save a section of a map for offline access. This is a great feature when you are traveling in an area with spotty coverage.

To save an area, launch Google Maps and tap on the menu key. Select Make Available Offline from the menu and then narrow down the area you want to save. You'll want to make sure you do this in advance and when more
