Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in epic rap battle

Just when you thought the world was so overloaded with caricatures of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs that it just might capsize and dump us all into space, here comes a truly hilarious one to lighten the load.

This installment of Epic Rap Battles of History features a very astute match-up between the two tech giants, spitting pointed jabs at each other until Jobs has to depart and Hal 9000 lights up the whole damn joint.

E3: Wii U GamePad puts a new touch on gaming

In today's show we're gaming with multiple screens, dodging Flame attacks and looking for a new direction from Apple:

The video game conference E3 rolls on and Nintendo has shown off the new gaming capabilities of the Wii U console, which will be coming out in time for the holidays -- but no price announced yet. Players will have to use the second screen in the GamePad controller to activate different game controls, camera views and features. In some games you might hold it up to the television screen to scan for enemies. But if you're playing more

Hit for the fences with these games for your smartphone

As we settle in to another exciting baseball season this spring, what could be a better time waster on your smartphone than a good baseball game? I usually write about iOS apps in my weekly collection, but this week all the games I selected have both iOS and Android versions, so everyone can get in on the fun.

This week's collection of apps for both iOS and Android are all about baseball. The first two will appeal to all baseball fans, but are more the quick pick-up-and-play arcade game variety. The second two games are more involved, with a complete baseball experience where you can play full nine-inning games and progress through a season.more

Become a tank hero

Tank Hero is a top-down 2D one-player tank combat game with fast-paced levels and three game modes.

The game looks great, and its three control schemes let you choose between swiping, tapping, and virtual directional pads to move and shoot--but we found the two virtual d-pads to be the most precise. On each level, you're trying to eliminate enemy tanks as quickly and accurately as possible while keeping your health intact, and you're awarded a bronze, silver, or gold medal based on your performance.

As you advance through the game's 120 short levels (split across three fairly more

HTC may back out of S3 buy after legal defeat

HTC is feeling a little buyer's remorse.

The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer said today that it would reconsider its planned acquisition of S3 Graphics, according to Bloomberg.

The value of S3 is debatable after the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled Apple did not violate its patents and terminated the investigation, dealing HTC a critical blow. HTC had intended for S3's patents to provide it with some legal cover in its ongoing court battle with Apple over intellectual property related to features found in touchscreen smartphones.

"We view this as a negative sign for HTC, which will now have more

Free turn-based strategy game

This open-source, turn-based strategy game is fun once you learn the basics, although it can be a bit choppy compared to most modern games. The object in Battle for Wesnoth is to build a hero and strategically use your units to attack the enemy and conquer villages as you follow your quest.

The story line is compelling and provides a nice backdrop to the game play which can get confusing once several units on both sides enter into the fray. The two-dimensional graphics are nothing special, and the sounds aren't very advanced, but as a free game with large more

Best iPad game you've never tried: Crimson: Steam Pirates

I don't know if a game about pirates and warships can "fly" under the radar, but that's what happened when Crimson: Steam Pirates made its debut a few weeks back. And that's a shame, because it's one of the best iPad games I've played--and definitely worthy of a spot on Scott Stein's best free iPad games list. That's right: Steam Pirates is a freebie.

Well, partially free, and partially freemium. The game starts you off with Chapter 1 of the "Tales of Captain Blood" saga; Chapter 2 will run you $1.99, as more

Apple may have manipulated images in Samsung case

It appears Apple may be hiring Photoshop artists alongside lawyers for its legal battle with Samsung Electronics.

Webwereld.nl, the Dutch sister site of Computerworld, claims that Apple is using an image of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone resized to more closely resemble the iPhone 3G. This follows similar claims that Apple had doctored images of the Galaxy Tab to look more like the iPad.

The reportedly altered images--which were presented as evidence in court--would place Apple on shaky ground. The company's primary argument is that Samsung's products are "slavish" imitations of Apple's hit mobile devices. But more

Icahn pushing Motorola Mobility to sell its patents

Billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn thinks Motorola Mobility should sell its valuable patent portfolio.

Icahn disclosed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission today that he believes Motorola's patent portfolio has significant value. He said the company should start looking at ways to realize that value given the heightened demand for such intellectual property in the industry, which is Wall Street-speak for potentially selling the patent portfolio.

Motorola issued a statement saying it continuously reviews the company's strategic direction and opportunities, but added that its recent progress has been made partly on the strength of those more
