Published 7/30/2012 at 11:06 a.m. 56 comments
Likening the Supreme Court Obamacare ruling to unleashing on taxpayers the equivalent of predatory lending, over the telephone U.S. Rep. Phil Roe sounds frustrated, but only because that’s how he feels. Frustrated and worried.

Several weeks ago I wrote a column comparing going through Transportation Security Agency airport screening to elements of U.S. Army basic training.

George Korda: Education funding and the meatiness of message
Published 5/22/2012 at 3:35 p.m. 14 comments

George Korda: Budget? We don’t need no budget. I don’t have to show you any stinking budget!

The headline isn’t a direct quote from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. It paraphrases a quote about “badges” made by a Mexican bandit character in the 1948 film classic, “Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. Nevertheless, it’s really not ...

Loudon County has become a target for anti-religion groups that seem to believe that God and expressions of religion have no place in government. At all. Period.

What constitutes “bullying?” That question is generating increasingly intense discussions in newsrooms, living rooms and school rooms. Unfortunately, with respect to schools, anti-bullying sentiments are showing the hallmarks of leading us down a path we should not go in terms ...

George Korda: Stacey Campfield and the politics of winning even if he loses
Published 1/2/2012 at 12:14 p.m. 33 comments
State Sen. Stacey Campfield knows how to draw a crowd. The Knox County senator probably collects more publicity than any legislator except the General Assembly’s top leadership. His legislative initiatives drive some people (particularly left-wing Tennesseans) to Maalox overdoses for ...

The complete flop that was the congressional deficit-cutting super committee wasn’t a surprise. The way the U.S. Congress is dealing with America’s hideous debt situation is a fake, a farce, a sham and a shame. We’re all being played for ...
