It is impossible when developers improve on their ideas and then are sued for it. That’s what the whole “protect innovation” thing is about.
If Apple patented universal search for the way it returns results on an operating system, Google expanded on it by integrating web search and allowing apps to access the API so you can search for a movie and go through IMDB’s database from the search app, or define a word with a dictionary app, or search your Evernote notes, or your Google Drive files, or translate a word, or search Tweets… all from universal search. That’s more than what Apple’s universal search does.
Apple didn’t invent any of their stuff out of nothing. Everything almost anyone in history has ever invented was an improvement or expansion on an existing idea. That’s how we innovate. We’re not wizards.

I’ve been Baroness fan for a long time. Their last record turned me off and I lost interest, but I’ll check out their new one.
It’s frustrating how much I seem to have in common with some of the Verge staff, and how little I work with you all.

I just use Twitter. I don’t have to give permissions to any other apps, it doesn’t run in the background after I close it, it saves the reading position… I just don’t really care.
But I’m not a big Twitter user. I just read Tweets, rarely sending any myself. None of my friends use it and I don’t have colleagues.
Comment
Yeah but Plume keeps running in the background after you close it, using up 55MB of RAM. Twitter doesn’t do that.

Good luck getting that response from Google. I mean, maybe because you’re a tech news site they might give a crap, but they certainly didn’t say a word about the widespread purple tint and other display abnormalities on so many Galaxy Nexus’s.

True, but there are much, much more Android tablet owners than “retina” MacBook Pro owners.

Me too. At $2000+, the “Retina” Macbook Pro is somewhat a niche product. We might not have to read these articles, but it’s on the main page, in our feeds, and maybe (just maybe) if The Verge writers and editors have these computers and spend so much time using them, they might not realize that not many people own these computers and likely don’t care about “news” reports on every program that’s been updated to support it.

I almost bought one of these not too long ago. This is cool. I might actually buy one now. Unless the price drop is in preparation for a new model.

This is accurate. My dad has had an iPhone 4S since launch and he’s had no idea what iCloud’s purpose was all this time. I went to visit my parents for the summer and set up Photo Stream for him. Again, he had no idea he even had the feature.

And I don’t know what you mean by that. How can you possibly know if a complete stranger whom you know nothing about went through life “jaded and predisposed”?
You based your assumption about my entire life on a comment I made about Def Leopard? Really?

This is what I remember, and why I grouped them with glam rock. Maybe there was something lost in translation when I saw them on MTV.
