Virgin Galactic announces LauncherOne, a cheaper way to take satellites to space

At the Farnborough International Airshow this week, Virgin Galactic announced the LauncherOne — an air-launched rocket designed to take small satellites into space for less than $10 million. The LauncherOne can carry payloads of up to 500 pounds and is launched from Virgin's WhiteKnightTwo.

Customers are already interested in taking advantage of the LauncherOne — Skybox and Sierra Nevada...

The web's first ever photograph — a grainy GIF of an all-female, physics-themed parody band — is approaching its 20th birthday, according to a report from Motherboard. The image, shown above, depicts "Les Horribles Cernettes," a group which regularly performs at CERN's annual Hadronic Music Festival. It was taken by scientist Silvano de Gennaro on July 18th 1992, edited in the very first version of Photoshop and eventually uploaded to Tim Berners-Lee's fledgling World Wide Web system....
