Cons
Nothing that I've found.
-

"Shell extension error on Rev 2.80 to 2.95"
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
I use the program for quite a while, FF does the job for free, the commercial toolbars that you get at install can be quickly uninstalled afterward and you end-up with a clean very effective multipurpose conversion tool!
BUT ...Cons
Since, at least, rev 2.8 up to my current 2.95 rev, I have a shell extension error in Windows explorer when en I left click in the right pane to get the pulldown menu. The result is a crash of Windows explorer. I use both Windows 7 32b and 64b.
The workaround: I do not use the .dll shell extensions of FormatFactory by renaming the 2 files with a .bad extension! The core conversion program works well and does not require the dll filess to run. The extension provide only nice-to-have but non essential cosmetic features.
I Hope rev3.0 will eventally fix this for good, but I cannot complain to much for the price!Summary
A good conversion program with a shell extension bug and an easy workaround.

"Nice Interface, But Many Bugs"
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
Good Interface
Many FormatsCons
Output files don't always work with Windows DVD Maker
Sound cut off at the end of some files -
"Did not work; installed toolbar without permission."
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
Could not find any in the 15 minutes that I used it.
Cons
1. I tried to convert a .mov file to .mp4. It failed to do it. Then I tried to convert it to mpg. It failed again.
2. It made Ask.com my home page and installed the Ask toolbar on my Chrome without my permission.Summary
Even if this software had worked, I would've uninstalled it because of Con# 2 above. Like a someone commented below, it is disappointing that CNET allows adware softwares like this.

"Does Exactly what it says."
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
-Fast
-Easy to Use
-Alot of OptionsCons
None that I can think of.
Summary
For a free product can't go wrong. And with regards to the "SPYware" If you install a product without reading then that's your fault. During the installation it clearly asks you DO you want to change your homepage to ask.com etc etc. All in all a very good converter for Free.

"Loads spamware on Firefox"
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
Was unable to get it to convert an FLV to MP4.
Cons
After it failed I launched my browser to check for other options and it came up with a DIFFERENT home page (Ask.com) and the Ask tool bar full of cr*pware. At no time during the install did it ask for permission to change my settings.
Summary
I had heard that CNET Downloads now featured spamware and cr*pware but this is the first time I experienced it.
In my eyes, CNET Downloads has lost all integrity and can no longer be trusted. Goodbye. -

"ON THE MARK"
Version: FormatFactory 2.95
Pros
Very useful. Perfect to tuck away in your program files for changing FLVs to AVIs or WMA or whatever. Solid design and performance. Easy to begin.
!Includes a video/audio joiner and splitter for engineering your media. This Advanced option for editing makes quick work of trimming your videos. (More so than programs that are devoted to nothing else but are too confusing to use or can't cut within a second of the mark you select.)
And only 40Mb: which is probably mostly used for your media codecs.Cons
Takes a little bit of intuitive effort to keep a simple task simple. Could use an olive-brown skin for those with earthy preferences. Video and large media tasks can take a while if the media isn't processed by multi-threading. More threads mean less time? But FormatFactory is not unreasonably slow.
Summary
Free Time is a distance ahead of most software publishers in this subject, which is not unusual for the software market to find a few companies that aren't just offering psuedo-solutions. Mr. Hao, the developer, has stayed on course and kept the user in charge. Could be shareware.
You should pick this up if you're searching for a converter or a splitter/splicer or both! -
"Batch conversions, easy to use and free, AWESOME"

Allows you to convert more than a few files at a time, I did almost 200 at once!
Cons
