Liquid Image Ego (white)

CNET Editors' Take

Liquid Image's little Ego camcorder is big on tech

Unless you're into scuba diving or snow and offroad sports you may never have heard of Liquid Image, which makes goggles and masks with built-in HD video cameras. Its new Ego minicamcorder, however, is meant for use in other sports where mounting is a better option than eyewear.

The tiny Ego (it measures 1.6x1.2x2.5 inches) records in full HD at 30 frames per second, but also has a 720p-at-60fps setting for shooting fast-moving subjects and can snap 12-megapixel stills. (Check out the sample video below.)

Though there is a tiny info screen on top, the Ego's built-in Wi-Fi can connect with an Android- or iOS-based device to use it as a viewfinder. The wireless can also be used to stream live videos, play back videos and pictures, and change camera settings.

Connections include Micro-USB for offloading files and charging and Micro-HDMI for connecting to a display, and there's a microSDHC card slot for up to 32GB of storage (you supply the card). The bottom has a tripod mount and a flat mount with an extra adhesive pad is included.

Also included is a clear faceplate to protect it from minor impacts and splashes. Additional housings and mounts will be available, too.

The Liquid Image Ego ships in June and will be available in black, white, red, blue, and yellow versions for about $180.
