EMILY: Hey, I?m Emily Dreyfuss. KARYNE: and I'm KARYNE Levy. EMILY: Welcome to Rumor Has It! The show where we round up the week's hottest tech rumors. KARYNE: And vote on what sounds legit, and what seems like total bunk. EMILY: The best part is that you guys can vote too, so don?t go anywhere EMILY (To my camera): Let's jump in. Our first rumor is exciting for two reasons: first, I believe it, and second, it?s being reported by our very own David Carnoy, who has a ?credible source? saying that a new Kindle Fire is coming out on July 31st. KARYNE: Recently rumors from Digitimes said new Kindle Fires were on their way with higher resolutions screens. EMILY: Right, but Carnoy?s source doesn?t mention the new screen res, or different sizes. The big change, according to Carnoy?s source, is that the Kindle Fire 2 is getting physical volume buttons and a camera. Karyne: Unfortunately, the source is silent on what the new processors will be, and no word on Bluetooth or memory. EMILY: Here?s why I say yea. I think google?s new tablet put a fire under Amazon to rush this update in time for the school season. Plus, Carnoy trusts this source and I trust Carnoy. KARYNE: I say nay on the July 31st release, because I think a year turn-around is more likely. Maybe it?ll be announced next month, but it won?t come out. EMILY: OK, do you guys think the Kindle Fire 2 will come in July? KARYNE (To KARYNE?s camera): Our second rumor comes from 9to5Mac, which says it took a second pass at the supposed iPhone prototype code and found evidence for NFC technology baked in, which basically means you can pay for stuff by swiping your phone. EMILY: Whether the code 9to5mac keeps referencing is real, NFC in the next iPhone makes sense. It?s an emerging, convenient technology that some Android phones already have, and even if very few people are using it right now, they will, so I think it?s a must-have feature. KARYNE: Right, otherwise Apple will be behind again. And that?s not a position they are usually comfortable in...for long. EMILY (To my camera): Our third rumor is that Kinect technology may soon be coming to Microsoft?s Connected Car platform. A job listing spotted on Microsoft?s site describes ?leveraging Kinect, Windows 8, Windows Phone, Bing, Azure and Tellme,? for the car. KARYNE: Uh, so that is basically every piece of Windows software under the sun, except for Office. EMILY: Yeah, which makes me skeptical. I think an HR person just listed all the new ?sexy? Windows stuff they could think of and this means nothing for Kinect and the car. KARYNE: Not so fast, Microsoft already demoed Kinect in the car with a Ford Mustang prototype that shows how Kinect could keep track of you in the car for safety and so you can change the radio. EMILY: This means play NPR, this means JAY-Z. KARYNE: Our final rumor is adorable, and suggests that the new BlackBerry 10 devices will out-pixel the iPhone Retina Display. Site N4BB claims it has a leaked internal spec sheet. EMILY: They don?t say at all where they got the ?leaked doc,? but it does list the resolution of the BlackBerry10 N- series at 1080 by 7-60 pixels. KARYNE: That is the worst report I?ve ever seen. They don?t know how to string words together. EMILY: OK, so let?s get back to our first rumor. Let?s see what the CNET Council thinks about the Kindle Fire 2 release date. KARYNE: And the CNET verdict is YEA, they think the Kindle Fire 2 will likely come out on July 31st. EMILY: Bazing! The council was 4 to one in agreement with me. Smarty pants.
