“If that were the whole case, then they'd take their corporate offices overseas as many other formerly US companies have done...Switzerland seems to be a growing destination...:(”
“I see no reason to like Apple. Period. In fact, I think it would be a good idea if they brought all their manufacturing to the US, thus driving up their manufacturing costs to the extent that they would no longer be price competitive with their Asian competition, and thus allowing the Asian competition to take over the market! That's how it worked with American television and vcr makers in the past. They were driven out of the market by more competitively priced Asian products. I think we should do the same with the tablet market. Then we would have Asian companies that not only do all their manufacturing in Asia, but are also HQ'd in Asia, and are Asian owned, too!”
“That's their job, though. I don't like it any better than you, but until companies become beholden more to their homelands than their shareholders this'll never change.”
“A fight is rounds. The Palestinians are going to win this round. In the end the best Israel can hope for is a draw.
It's a lot like playing chess, really. The Pals move is to seek UN recognition. The next move is up to Israel. Does Israel let the Pals take this piece and try to salvage a respectable position despite losing this round or is it going to throw over the table? Those seem to be the choices.
In this case a draw is victory. The prize? After 63 years of war you get to live in peace.”
“Apple is not doing us any favors, as is their habit,,,,,,,,,,. Like iTunes which sells us music that plays only on their player, (unless you jump through hoops to convert it). It's like selling gas that works only in one kind of car.”
“((( "...Like iTunes which sells us music that plays only on their player..." )))
That hasn't been true since April, 2009. And FYI, Apple wanted to open their format from the start, but the record companies wouldn't license their music without DRM.”
“Companies aren't out to do us "any favors." But, quite frankly, I think we've all benefited from the success of Apple's iPods, iPhones, and iPads. All these Apple products have spurred many other products to rise to the occasion. I have a Droid X which I love, and I have to thank the success of the iPhone for the Droid X's existence. And would be even have all these other tablets without the launch of the iPad? Probably not. Microsoft tried to push tablet computing for years, but their execution was always so clunky that it never got off the ground.
BTW, we don't do America any favors by constantly trying to tear down Apple, one of the few bright spots in American business these days. It's amazing how so many Americans would love nothing more than to see Apple, one of the most successful American companies, go down in flames...only to have Asian companies like Samsung or Toshiba take over the market! Woohoo! Go Asia! Down with the USA! LOL.”
“I really don't care if clergy or politicians attend. I just don't want to hear from them or look at them on some podium. They have no business being there.”
“Firstly, no one could have done in 1948 what was done without the complicity of many, many Iranians. That said, I really don't give a cr@p right now about 1948, except as a historical artifact. I prefer to deal with the headache that Iran has become in the here and now and what needs to be done to make that headache go away.”
“Notice the picture of the two unelected, lunatic, illegitimate, dictator, thug ayatolas hanging on the wall in the background.
]
That kinda tells you who's running things in Iran.”
“Of course, both were in fact elected to their offices by the Assembly of Experts, who are elected by the population at large, so your comment says more about you than it does about Iran.”
“Funny, they say the same about the pictures hanging over our heads--thugs and lunatics. You do know, of course that Iran had a democratically elected president in 1948? You do know that America OSS and British MI5 engineered an overthrow? You do know that your CIA installed a puppet (Shah) who instituted Ges.tapo like tactics to control and quench dissent for 45 years? You do know that the Ayatolas were a REACTION brought about by American conduct? Maybe you'll be less critical of whom people choose for their leaders when you study how your leaders have had a destabilizing influence around the world, all for the sake of exploiting the natural resources of indigenous people. (Go back to skul)”
“From 15 miles away, quite a distance, one man's interpretation of the event that unfolded BEFORE the video was shot is unreliable and should not be thought of as fact. Still, it's good to have the video.”
“so it must be the government burning tires and passing it off as factual correct? there's nothing you guys won't be convinced of.always a conspiracy.”
“It's the idiots whose replies you eschew that are enamored with Apple and their monopolistic practices. It's about time that OUR justice department went after THEM.
“That's easy, Mike, because Wal-Mart is a general retailer and thus a great diversity of products whereas Apple is on the electronics segment, which is totally dominated by the Asians. As you surely know, there is not a single major PC maker that produces in America. Semiconductor makers are an exception, and I say BRAVO to them, but the problem of America's deindustrialization is a societal one, not an individual company issue.
Every country has its ridiculous obsessions. In America, any talk of an industrial policy a la Germany is met with derision by both rightwing parties, but the truth is that those countries that have adopted a blend of free market capitalism and intelligent industrial policies have fared best in the past 50 years!”
“Walmart -- good grief. Walmart is leading the charge in the decimation of many American industries. Don't believe me - ask unemployed Rubbermaid workers who lost their jobs after Wal-Mart told their company to reduce costs or lose shelf space in their stores - Rubbermaid had to move to China.”
“We need a postal service. Every civilized country has a postal service. Mars has a postal service, probably.
But charging 44 cents for a person to come to your house and personally see to it that your mail is delivered personally to anywhere in the country is ridiculously cheap. Charge about $1 per piece of regular mail. More for junk mail. That would still be a bargain. UPS and FedEx charge about $15 for the same service.
When I was a kid mailing a letter was about 5 cents. So was the newspaper. The mail is up to a whole 44 cents while the newspaper is $2.”
“Our country is coming apart by the uncivilized drive to ubdo Democracy and thus our country heritage mile by un patr_iotic mile through the teabaggedacons.”
“For 44 cents a guy comes to my house personally picks up may mail and gets it personally delivered to anywhere in the country. All for 44 cents. That's ridiculously cheap. FedEx and UPS, the USPS' main competitors, would charge something like $12-$20 for that kind of service.
How about raising the postage rate to a base of $1 and even more for the companies that send out that annoying junk mail? That's reasonable.
(You want to litter my mailbox with your annoying junk mail, pay for it.)”
“No clergy and no politicians except the mayor of the city, the governor of the state, and the president of the country. Plus family and friends of those who were lost, plus actual 9/11 survivors. That's it. I really don't want to be hearing from anyone else or their agendas.”
“I really don't care if clergy or politicians attend. I just don't want to hear from them or look at them on some podium. They have no business being there.”
Did Turkey bother to read the UN's findings in regard to this matter? It was in Friday's New York Times. Somebody get Turkey a Times.
More blame was attributed to Turkey than to Israel.
But the fact is, most of the blame should fall on the flotilla participants who went out looking to pick a fight with an armed force and got what they were looking for. This is exactly the result that might have expected.
As far as Israel goes, their part in all of this was very imperfect. They should man-up and apologize for those actions on its part that it engaged in which were inappropriate or imperfectly carried out. They should pay compensation where it is due. We should also remember that the Israelis who carried this out, while armed, were probably scared stiff 20-something year-old kids. Put yourselves in their shoes. You might so some shooting too.”
“I agree very good post.
The Israeli soldiers are used to pushing around Palestinian civilians who are terrified of them and have no weapons. This turned up to be a fight so they lost their cool and decided on revenge. They executed 9 passengers threw a couple overboard. Then badly beat up the rest
A senior officer got the word from central and stopped them.
The reason for the resistance was that after the first passenger was killed with a direct shot from the helicopter. All the passengers and crew expected that they would all be murdered.
As usual in these cases a mistake and a bunch of wrong assumptions.”
“I agree with you on all points - except of apology.
Usually in such situations - if both sides want to settle it - Israel would pay compensation (just like US did in Pakistan for "ex-CIA" agent killings "allegedly" Pakistanis agents) and then both sides would calm the situation by keeping quite and letting it go.
But here, Turkey PM deliberately wanted to escalate it to score more points as "defender of oppressed" and "leader of a new ME". So no apology from Israel would help in this case - or Edrogan would use it as a huge win, but still would look for another excuse to bash Israel and cut military ties that he's not interested in anymore.”
“>>hey should man-up and apologize for those actions on its part that it engaged in which were inappropriate or imperfectly carried out. They should pay compensation where it is due.
And they should do so immediately after Turkey apologizes for supporting the attempted breach of a legal blockade and pay Israel for the associated costs of interception as well as to the victims of the violent Turkish jihadists on board.”
“Israel should ask itself if this would be happening had their moronic foreign ministry not intentionally humiliated the Turkish ambassador by forcing him to sit in a little chair when he was called in to listen to Israel moan and groan about some Turkish movie that the Israelis did not like.
“Turkey already got its ruling from a UN commission of which it was a part. That should be the end of it except that those who did wrong should apologize for those aspects of the incident for which they bear responsibility and pay damages where applicable.
As far as a further lawsuit by Turkey goes, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks".”
“The Turks can do whatever they want. They don't want to be a major power in the ME - they already are. Nobody has to play with the dirty, bullying kids from Israel.”
