Staffordshire Police used their official account to tweet insights into the game, from advising on tactics to remarking on players’ hair styles.
In several hours of commentary, an unidentified but clearly excited member of staff wrote about the England team’s “great tackle”, “brave attempt” and proclaimed they were “looking good.”
Using the Staffordshire Police twitter account, they said: “Great tackle by Terry, we'll be tackling repeat offenders.”
In a succession of comments throughout the match, the force remarked on a “brave attempt by Rooney nearly needed new hair do again!” and said: “So close yet so far - don't have too many shots!”
Referring to the Italian team tactics, he or she wrote “Balotelli should be in the Olympics - Italian diving team” and assessed one near-miss as a “Close shave should have gone to specsavers”.
