Skyrim DLC: first Dawnguard video and how to get started

What to do when you download today's massive expansion

It's saying something about Skyrim's immensitude - nay, giganticalness - that I'm worried I won't be able to find the Dawnguard DLC pack's 10-20 hours of gargoyle-punching and neck-biting when I download it this afternoon. 10-20 hours? In other games, that's as long as a... well, a game. Here, it's a needle in the world's coldest haystack. Fortunately, enterprising bods over at Just Push Start have posted a Dawnguard gameplay video explaining how to trigger the quests in question.

As it turns out, this is remarkably easy. If you're level ten or over, simply head to the nearest town and chat to guards about vampires. Sooner or later, you'll be accosted by a mysterious chap with a gravelly voice. From there, it's as simple as following your compass.

The Dawnguard HQ is located beyond Skyrim's borders, as per game director Todd Howard's suggestion last year. There's a cave which will take you there, though beware - the map marker shows the position of the fort itself, not the access route.

Watch the video for more pointers. Don't know about you, but if a strange hairy dude ran up to me in the middle of the night, babbling about vampire plagues, I'd smack him with my handbag.

Update: It's out!

  1. Oh goodness... It's finally here :D

  2. Nice to see an uncomplicated start.

Having recently replayed Fallout: New Vegas with all the DLC I was getting a bit cheesed off with "mysterious radio signals" all the time.
