Xbox 360's most abhorrent alternate costumes

Dressing to kill

The alternate costume is always a risky prospect. Developers have to behave themselves when it comes to default character attire: it's likely to end up on the box art, after all. But unlockable clothing - whether bought as post-release DLC or otherwise - is an opportunity to experiment, and sometimes, the results are more Frankenstein than Frida Giannini. Here are eight of the worst.

  1. Have to agree with Sheva in Resi.5 you would think she would be wanting to put more on (like chainmail) with all the undead about.Shame about the the oft mentioned horse armour in Oblivion while it looks really nice i wouldn't have used even if i had it.Oblivion gave you more reason to run around than say Skyrim as you lvl. your skills up quicker.

  2. Mileena's alternate unlockable costume from the newest Mortal Kombat game. It starts off as strategically placed bandages, and with the clothing damage model, only gets worse. To rub salt into the wound, there's an achievement for unlocking it entitled "Best. Alternate. Ever."

  3. I'm thinking the Borat mankini thing in Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record. Chuck Greene just looked stupid in it, not that you can avoid looking stupid in one, but seeing lardy arsed Dan Aykroyd-alike Frank West in it made me seriously nauseous. Then again, a fat guy dressed as Daisy Duke is hilarious.

The entire schoolgirl uniform pack in Soul Calibur IV. 'Nuff said.

Akuma and Gouken's alternates from Street Fighter IV. Where did they get six inch thick rope from, and why does it stay in place?

Totally agree about Mortal Kombat, plus all the men look worse than my terrible unfortunately-faced Fallout characters. Johnny Cage is supposed to be a Hollywood actor, but his face looks like it's been shat on and then pummelled with a frying pan.

I liked that. The Japanese school girl sailor costume allowed me to create characters that looked like my girlfriend and her best mate on a night out clubbing :D

The worst is Dead or Live's Zack costume that made him look like a teletubby. Who thought that was a good one?

Do they stick a couple of beach balls down their tops to complete the Soul Calibur effect?

You assume they need the help
