Dragon's Dogma 2 on the way, original ships one million worldwide

Capcom to "develop this entirely new brand into a major franchise"

Dragon's Dogma has shipped a million units worldwide, the 55th Capcom game to do so, and is the company's best-selling new IP at launch in Japan for 10 years, selling 400,000 copies in a fortnight. What do those numbers point to? That's right: sequels.

Capcom plans to "develop this entirely new brand into a major franchise", according to a financial note released today (via EG). This won't purely be a question of new games, but will also involve a chunky DLC strategy. Can we have some more classes, please, Capcom? A bard class, perhaps? Or some sort of werewolf?

"Dragon's Dogma is part of Capcom's basic strategy of establishing game franchises through the creation of new brands," the note went on.

"This game was developed with the goal of creating another pillar of earnings for Capcom alongside Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara. To further increase the value of brands used for its content, Capcom will continue to utilise a variety of initiatives that include the continuous distribution of downloadable content.

"Capcom plans to add more titles to the lineups of its core game franchises while introducing original titles as well. By focusing on these measures to enlarge the line-up of content under development, Capcom aims to maximise earnings."

  1. Great news this is.Let's just hope it doesn't become just another cash cow milked for all its worth. Some substantial dlc is welcome news and think they have plenty to go at in terms of mythical beasts for a sequel.Hopefuly more of the same tided up a bit in certain areas,i know a lot of people would like fast travel added for a start.

  2. Please don't milk it Capcom like you have with the current DLC. Other than that great news.

Ingrained in the brain like so many others, MY Madonna !!!!,lol.

  5. I know fast travel is wanted but I think keeping ferrystones is a better idea! it sets it apart and means that more care is taken when starting a quest as it really is an adventure rather than "Fast forward here, do that, go home". I hope they do better quests, a more vibrant city and a bigger world. That is all I need!
