Assassin’s Creed III Takes On Colonial America

Ubisoft’s worst-kept secret is now officially out of the bag: Assassin’s Creed III will be set against the backdrop of the American revolution.

The publisher revealed the game’s official box art on Thursday, a striking piece of artwork that depicts a hooded assassin grabbing a British soldier by the throat and swinging a tomahawk in the air towards him with the other hand. The image also shows what appears to be the American Revolutionary War raging in the background.

The weaponry Assassin’s Creed III‘s frontman wields, which also includes a quiver of arrows and flintlock pistol, is consistent with rumors that the character is at least partly Native American.

Ubisoft said it would divulge more concrete details about the upcoming game on March 5. Last month, it said that it would release Assassin’s Creed III on October 30, 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
