Good to know this game is not that good. Never really got me hyped anyways. I was more impressed with Torchlight 2... So much, that I pre-purchased it on Steam. I loved the original Torchlight.

Y2WaShErE 8 pts

So many haters lol. I think the goal for D3 was to reach out to a new audience and bring Diablo to a modern front as well as watering down the formula to make it more accessible to gamers new to the series. Simple, repetitive and rewarding are usually the words i use to describe blizzard games and I know there's a different perception of blizzard games from the hardcore side of things that enjoy strategy, planning and skill. I know a lot of people feel like D3 didn't cater to that side of the audience but do the developers see it that way? If those of you who felt like you weren't catered to with this game all speak out collectively I think you might get a hardcore sequel out of them. But from what I've heard, hardcore mode and inferno mode caters to the hardcore audience

moc5 53 pts

Y2WaShErE Okay, Im sorry, but 'watered down' is perhaps hitting the nail on the head.    Well said.  You ever try a Pepsi that is watered down?  Personally I call the waiter back and say give me a refund or get me something i can stomach.  When did it ever become okay for games to be watered down?  Answer:  the console gamer dropped the IQ by what?  10?  20?   On average.  Sorry Y2, but you stuck the the chord in key.  Catering makes money off the the prior game's huge success that did not cater to it's audience.    Am I the only one that gets that?  I am not a D3 hater.  I scored the game an 8.   It's good.  It's not up to Blizzard's standard, but it's a good game overall.   It would be great without the water though.

That is not how I see it.I played D2, for all 70'ish hours with a friend, online, and often solo, and I'm enjoying the 'water' as much as my friend, who also btw, enjoys WoW , aheck of a lot ( as do I ). I can see players admonishing the lack of a 'insert coin here' skill tree, but what is here is so much better, because your able to choose what you want at willl for a certain need. Doesn't everyone deserve to ENJOY a game, not just elite hater skill grabbing gamers ? I think you take this a BIT too serious ;) Find your pleasure elsewhere, apparently ?

moc5 53 pts

forthefunofit Now ive made a commitment to not acknowledge trolls from now on.  I only will comment on valid arguments rather than personal attacks.  This is on the fence, so here's hoping....  I do take gaming serious, or I wouldnt comment.  I respect that there are some gamers that dont like complexity, but I do.  When I comment, it is only my opinion.  I like to think I represent a hard core gaming crowd that appreciates honest effort into making games.  When I feel like I have something positive to contribute or justified, I will say so.  The only thing I disagree with you on is 'hater' and 'finding my pleasure elsewhere'...this is what I do.  It is all I do, and contrary to your word, I love Video games. :)

D3 is another perfect example of a lousy game that sells a lot of copies because it is built on hype and gimmicks. in the end it simply fails to deliver the goods.

moc5 53 pts

buccomatic my fear is that Blizzard is turning into EA.  The big bucks tend to cloud your vision.  Though reputation can be cashed in on, it can rarely be recovered.

tan020399 8 pts

Very tiresome and loose held stages for sure.........

Marshalldbdx 9 pts

tan020399 sucks to have your taste.

moc5 53 pts

After 100+ hours of game play the stages were as follows:

1-20 hours:  hero skills were uninspiring (minus the Barbarian), game was too easy.  Online game play was extremely annoying.

20-40 tired of one shot mob kills.  Seemed over the top and took little skill unlike D2.  Plays like a console version of Diablo.  It was starting to get more addictive because the loot system and upgrades.

40-60  Game play got boring. The game started to get more and more unbalanced even with all the loot options (which is all that keeps me going after Nightmare)

60-80  I spend all my time dying over and over sometimes just running past areas I know I dont stand a chance in, becuase, I just want to get to inferno where the real loot is.  I spend a lot of time in the Auction House becuase thats where all the good loot is.

80-100 Im tired of grinding for gold.  I', not going to spend 15 bucks more gold just so i can have a chance at getting the loot i need to beat the game, so my Barb is going to retire and let Diablo take over the world.  I just never thought Diablo would do it in the Auction House.  (surprise ending for me :)

Played to inferno. The overall experience is fine, but in the later stage I found myself more of buying directly from the auction house instead of looting on my own as there are always better kits in the store; and the best loot I got isn't unique i.e. the variety of equipment is still disappointing, given that the legendary kits all look the same and there are few Set Items.

Verdict: Expect no big innovation from this game. If you buy the concept of click-and-slash, well there's this improved graphics and -slightly- improved story, and yes, easier hands-on for newbies. But if you find the concept itself flat and boring, well then Blizzard is not gonna to refresh you this time, at least not like last time with D1 and D2 when such concept was still a novelty.

For me personally, used to be a really big fan of D2, but over the years novelty worn off after so many play-throughs as well as other similar games e.g. Torchlight. So there's disappointment here as I can't revive that thrill I used to have when I first touched on D2. I bet Blizzard is really playing safe here and just won't risk anything revolutionary; instead their tactic is to (1) vouch to the old players that at least you get what you used to have, with some eyecandy (2) really aggressive ad campaign aimed to once again bring Diablo series into media attention so as to attract some new gamers (thus the idiot-proof skill switching system)

Good game, but somehow detracts a bit from my impression of that innovative Bliz

I have a feeling that Torchlight II is going to kill D3.

It's going to cost only $20.00

It has way more content than D3

this game looks so much fun. If only I had time to play such a title...

Midnightshade29 14 pts

Don';t undestand the score. Review had only good points, only negative was the server maintanence. How does that take off a whole 1.5 points when so much is good.  If this was a Halo or Cod GS would of gave it a 9+  you know they would. They have to get their advertising money somehow... lol

Bottom line is D3 is an amazing and addictive game, well worth your money. I just hope I'm not a senior when D4 comes out...

Midnightshade29 I'm suprised it even got 8.5.... I don't look at the numbers anymore and just listen to what they have to say.

Thumbler76 34 pts

I've tried the game yersterday for the first time, for a 3 hours long session. It is a good game, indeed, but I have found the gameplay and the maps very flat. I mean: the maps have heavy limits and as they are built randomly at every new game, there is no real an offical map for Diablo world. They are dark but not so much as i expected, looking at the previous diablo episodes, and i found that they look like small arenas in which you wander around killing monsters without a real "exploration" of the world. The gameplay is too much similar to the one i have already seen in Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Torchlight. No innovation at all, just a ton of stats and specs and runes to take in consideration, that matter only for the real Diablo nerds aiming more to build the ultimate gear and combination of runes, spec and whatever other geek bullshit.

The only interation i have seen between my toon and the environment was:destroying a wall, destroying a column, destroying a rotten tree, scavenging corpses. Stop. This game is a copy/paste of diablo 2 with better graphics and mental statistics customization.

Yeah, it is fun to play through the entire story just to see how it does end, and to appreciate some good CG cinematics. In coop it must be the real fun because you can play with other people, but many other games have this feature. An 8.5 score is more that this game deserves, it is more the brand than the matter.

Whimsyshire is a dream come true for me.It was warth spending 60 euro for that level alone.

people ther's no customization.let's be honest.all the character at the end will be the same.i really can't understand you people.the veterans of these game now what i am talking about. please blizzard  make a patch that i can distribute my points when i'm leveling up.

Parker7007 5 pts

Fun, but I do hate the skill runes system, I miss skill trees. We wanted a respec option, not an extremely easy skill system where that doesn't require any brainpower or planning and completely eliminates any reason to level the same class ever again. Leveling both a whirlwind barb and a berserk barb in D2 was fun, they both played very differently. Being able to just switch it on the go is lame as hell. Always online is also a b*tch. Also it felt way shorter than the other two. Did not live up to my expectations sadly, but still a pretty sick game.

meicell 5 pts

This game isn't finished, yet. A lot of enemy packs are unkillable.

back to D2

also a game that OBLIGE you to stay online to enjoy a campaign is fail for me.

nobody will force me to play online only

ArcherRO 82 pts

Albaficas You play Diablo for it's story?

Thumbler76 34 pts

impossible, Diablo's story is as flat as a Virtual reality grey square plain.

GryphonICD 33 pts

If it wasn't for the online part, this game would be highly enjoyable. I won't lie, I'm actually fearful of playing Hardcore mode as there's no telling if the connectivity is going to sustain the attempt for me (I'm on WiFi, it isn't happy at the best of times). Once in the game though, ir's very consuming and you never really feel bored. Also enjoy the power customisation where you can select what feels best to you. Good fun, exactly what I ask for in a game.

brkdwnxx 64 pts

GryphonICD i haven't disconnected from ONE single game yet. and my internet is by no means premium. check yuor connection. that is all.

I played D2 for many years.

D3 is much better.

:)

There's no more garbage elitist builds , and everything has been improved. Some people don't like change, it's too bad because the change is actually for the better. After playing it, I don't see how anyone could go back to D2.

Can't wait for team deathmatch :)

Occultimate 5 pts

TMohrsy Elitist builds are the product of good decision making and should be rewarded, not punished. Simply because most people have a lack of good decision making skills when given the free will to do so, people like you make the corperation hold the player/users hand like a child to walk across the street without you getting hurt, simply because you probably could not do that in real life like those "elite" who simply are better then you because of common sense that you don't have. What you said is basically you would prefer a fake girlfriend over a real girlfriend, as the fake one won't leave you as easily when you make mistakes while the real life one has free will and will make her own decisions. Darwins theory will take over and people like you will be taken out of the gene pool soon for your lack of common sense. The corperation tends to people like you because you guys are so abundant while the elitist and novelties of the world are repressed and shunned in their opinions to how to make the world a better place. Let me ask you this question to lighten your mind up a little better. Who do you want to make the important choices for something like a new game that comes out, the guy who's decision making stood out and made him dominate other players in an elitist manner, or the guy who instead of learning how to get better then they already where, decided to quit the game and demand something easy and as simple as their mind, crying for it like a big baby as the elite gets all the good things in life. People don't get rewarded for bad choices, remember that the next time you decide to believe the corperation is doing you a favor. Diablo 3 was more of an insult to players by tending to the stupidity of the world instead of letting players make their own choices. Diablo 3 is to you as being grounded is to children.

Occultimate To answer your question: I would prefer someone who can spell.

GryphonICD 33 pts

Occultimate Really? I play games for entertainment myself. Have done for the past 30 years. You buckle on and make your headstrong decisions and get somewhere (like a Gamespot comments section, go you), I'm quite content to cruise along and be content to live.

GryphonICD 33 pts

Occultimate Oh, I should add that if there is only one answer as is the case with perfect builds, then everything becomes the same without deviation. Nice speech though. A little long winded for my tastes but then we can't all be individuals like your esteemed yourself.

after i bought this, i tried to get it to work for 3 days, on the third day i was successful, i played it for four hours or so, realized it was s**t. then returned it the next day. then i played diablo 2, i was pleased with my decision.

this review is very misleading, to get an accurate overview of the game from this review, simply imagine Carolyn's saying the opposite of what hes saying. i mean who the hell would think being able to unassign and reassighn skill points would be a good feature?!?!?! is that to make up for the lack of attribute distribution?

the main word of this review to not listen to is "addictive"cos its not.

i wouldn't accept this as a christmas gift.

If i saw someone about to purchase this game i wouldn't allow it.

I wouldn't even download this for free.

i hope blizzard have been working on something else on the sly whilst making this piece of shite, not because i would be interested in purchasing anything else blizzard will have to offer, just so i can see that they haven't been completely wasting there time doing nothing these past i don't know how many years.

TMohrsy 8 pts

TheHarvestFloor blizzard has spent the last decade making 3 of the highest selling games on the market. They have been very busy for the past "i don't know how many years" making very good quality games. Anyhow, have fun playing a decade old game with a fraction of online players *rolls eyes*.

The rest of your statements are too silly to address.

Occultimate 5 pts

TMohrsy Quality and the amount of money a game makes are not the same. What is Quality is how well the corperation actually advertised the game. They could advertise a bucket of feekle matter well enough and someone like you would buy it. Buying this game was a learning experience for me. I learned to look at all aspects of a games engine before buying the game. You can't even play the game offline. You don't even have an option for customization. You don't have choices. You don't even have the choice to make a choice. Blizzard believes they are tending to a bunch of unintelligent inferior people, and the more people buy their well advertised buckets of feekle matter, the more they will do so.

azumabob 29 pts

 Occultimate

ARPG's are about simplicity of play, that was the original design brief for Diablo. Look it up, it was a way of introducing some aspects of RPG's to the general gamer, who would more likely avoid long winded text windows and overly complicated rulesets, such as D&D.; More people now play RPG's because of ARPG's, which I consider a success, based on the design brief. Talking as if it was some hardcore RPG like Neverwinter Nights is just plain crass and ill-informed.

Occultimate 5 pts

 TheHarvestFloor Brutally honest

jmcdowell00 7 pts

Occultimate It's "corporation," you uneducated troll. c-o-r-p-O-r-a-t-i-o-n. And while we're at it, its "were" and not "where," and "fecal," not "feekal." Tear yourself away from your computer screen once a day and read a book, for at least an hour a day. Do that for one year. No posting on the interwebs the whole time. After one year of educating yourself, you may resume trolling, and if so inclined, telling people how much smarter than them you are.

MentatAssassin 8 pts

Looks pretty but the "must be online to play" gimmick is a definite deal breaker.
