    The Youth Media Summit will consist of four one-day symposia that provide a public forum for discussion about media and news literacy in America. Participants will include educators, community leaders, media professionals, journalists, nonprofit leaders, policymakers and students.

    Each symposium will focus on best practices, expertise, needs and opportunities within the host community.

    The media system we have wasn't created magically — it's the direct result of business, political and policy decisions. Yet for too long those decisions have been made behind closed doors without any public involvement. Even as the "crisis in journalism" worsens, journalists themselves have been largely absent from the debates in Washington reshaping their industry.

  • Media Reform U.K. Rally

    The explosion of "Hackgate" has drawn attention to widespread corruption across the British establishment and the potential for corporate media to undermine the fabric of our democracy. On May 17, Media Reform U.K. and the Hacked Off campaign will bring together celebrities, hacking victims, campaigners and politicians to voice their views about what a democratic and accountable media means. Speakers include Hugh Grant, Tom Watson MP, Mary-Ellen Field and Jaqui Hames. The event will coincide with the Leveson Inquiry's interrogation of the relationship between press and politicians, as well as an imminent Green Paper consultation on comprehensive media and communications law due to be passed before the end of the current Parliament.

    The event will be livestreamed on www.mediareform.org.uk from 1–3pm EST.

In other words, its neutrality, its openness to rapidly developing technologies and its layered architecture are the reasons it has succeeded where others (e.g., ISDN, Interactive TV) failed.

  • Low Power FM Radio Summer Camp

    Free Radio Berkeley is pleased to announce the 2011 schedule of the Summer Radio Camp program. Now in their sixth year, these camps present a unique DIY, hands-on learning opportunity and experience. With decreasing emphasis being placed on acquiring actual real-world skills at all levels of education, the Summer Radio Camp program provides individuals with the opportunity to learn by doing.
