Syndicating Sarah Palin, Part 2: The Next Rush Limbaugh?

July 29, 2009

Inside Radio reported yesterday that a new career choice for Sarah Palin, the now former governor of Alaska and Republican lightning rod, might be a nationally syndicated radio show.

Sarah Palin wink“While not exactly shopping the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential candidate, sources say Palin representatives have been quietly testing the waters to see how much interest radio syndicators have for her,” reports the publication.

My own sources say much what they said when asked about a TV show for Palin: Don’t think so. While you might assume Palin would be a better fit for conservative radio than the less partisan world of syndicated broadcast TV, my sources say the country’s biggest radio conglomerate, Clear Channel, has already passed on her.

The main objection to Palin as radio talk-show host is that she would have to hold forth for three hours a day. While some of her recent remarks may indicate a talent for improvisation, anyone who’s listened to Rush Limbaugh or Thom Hartmann or Don Imus or Howard Stern or even Ryan Seacrest knows it’s the rare personality who can blab extemporaneously for 15 hours a week. And relying on callers to get you through won’t help, because as we’ve all experienced, callers-in are usually more embarrassing than compelling.

Inside Radio also gleefully points out the irony of these rumors, since Palin’s disdain for the media is clear. As she admonished reporters in her departure speech: “Quit making things up.”

Meanwhile, we’re all waiting for the real answer to the question: What does Palin plan to do next?

Well, what do you think she should do?

i haven't heard palin say one thing that would move me to take her seriously. it is disturbing that she has a voice on the national stage. i feel that her supporters need to take a look at themselves and ask the question, "what am i really angry about". this woman has not really come forth with any kind of coherent plan of any kind for anything. she seems to be taking the role of mouthpiece for a lot of angry middle class people that feel their "way of life" is being taken away by a liberal agenda. if your way of life is beer and sports, well... they've got you right where they want you... get off the couch. read a book. this woman has been packaged to sell to you just like miller lite.

Talk radio is out of the question as a future career for Palin. She doesn't have the voice for it. She also relies far too heavily on cliches when she speaks (forget about dead fish, what really makes people cringe is when she - and she does this far too often - uses "new age" words). Being a successful on air "personality" requires a few essential elements: be quick witted and witty, be fearless (the most successful hosts are the most outrageous), never, ever rely on soundbites nor cliches and last but not least - the VOICE.

Gary commented:

Too funny. Sarah Palin WILL probably do radio. But she will do what Ronald Reagan did. Reagan did short daily comments on current issues. He started doing this in 1976 after losing the primary. 4 years later, he was POTUS.
And for you nimrods that don't think Palin is up to snuff, well, you are plenty ignorant of this woman's accomplishments. She accomplished more as Governor than most do in their entire career.
Let's remember that she just negotiated the largest construction project in history. This is something Alaskans had been trying to do for over 30 years. It took her two. This is a $60 billion project that took tough negotiating with a foreign country, as well as an international construction company, and Exxon-Mobil. Even better, this will be paid with private funds and not tax payer dollars.
Name me anyone else that has pulled something like that off.
Sarah Palin has already said she will go and support candidates that share her love of our country, love of the constitution, small efficient government, individual freedom, and liberty. In other words, everything Obama and his Chicago thugs are against.
Not sure if Sarah Palin has such a huge desire to be POTUS, but she certainly has the ability to change history and stop Obama before he destroys America completely. That will be her immediate job.
Past that, look for the cries for her to run in 2012 to be too loud to be ignored. She already has an 80 percent approval rating among the largest group of American voters, conservatives. And her popularity among indies and even democrats is rising.
Go back and study 1980. Obama is Jimmy Carter II (except stupider and more dangerous) and Sarah Palin Is Ronald Reagan in a skirt and high heels. By 2012 Obama will do good to win his home state of Illinois. Even with ACORN making votes up out of thin air!

When the hell did she ever even made any indications that she was ever going into the radio business? Paige Albiniak, you're a hack just like the rest of the media. Palin was absolutely right when she told the media to "stop making things up". Here's an idea how about reporting on how Obama's stimulus plan did absolutely nothing for the economy or for jobs except provide more power and an expansion of government. Also, how about talking about what's in the Health care package that Obama is trying to ram through Congress without people reading it. Here's another idea, how about an investigation or a demand of a congressional hearing to see what caused this financial disaster in the first place. You can start with the Community Reinvestment Act created by that retard socialist Carter.

Then I read that a woman who was nominated by one of our two major parties for the second highest job in the executive branch doesn't have the IQ to do what they do. And, you know, they may be right - she may be even dumber than O'Reilly. What does that tell you about how irresponsible and cavalier the Republican party has become? O'NoNuts, Biden, McShame,Rudy,Hillary,Bill,...what a bunch of loser's. If everyone, including the repuke's were not scared to death of her, why would they keep bashing her.Clear Cahnnel..your loss.

I pray for her and her families peace.

While Ms. Palin is physically attractive, that ain't gonna cut it for her on radio. Sorry, supporters, but the simple fact is that the woman cannot form a coherent thought and put it into words.
As a Left Winger, I implore the conservative syndicators: PLEASE PUT HER ON THE AIR! The ensuing train wreck would be AWESOME! She would quit or be canned without six months, tops.

She could be a buyer at a pharmaceutical wholesaler. As long as she is willing to put up with her decisions being cancelled behind her back by an evil redneck caveman warehouse manager who despises "office people" (but only WHEN THEY ARE NOT STANDING THERE) because "they're not one of us," meaning "office people" don't worship beer and sports like warehouse people do, and a CEO who doesn't know what do do about multiple chains of command having the same interests.

Sarah Palin is unable to cope with the routine that a regular job entails. There will be no daily gig anywhere, ever.

@ReaganTMan Actually, I find that many of her detractors point at her inability to form coherent sentences, which is all her own fault.

Radio would be a no go. Palin's voice sounds like the background screeching soundtrack from a slasher movie. What is she suited for? Well, hard to say, as Ms. Diva doesn't play well w/ others (as it looks like she does not take direction from others). Life would be a living H*ll for her superiors and all working w/ her, in the opinion of many. That's just from people observing her during the 2008 campaign and after.

She is an incoherent, totally out-of-her-league and intensely, deeply bitter and mean, horrible person. She doesn't even really know what she stands for, but as long as it suits her down-home, aw-shucks, us-vs.-them image, she'll beat it to death, you betcha.
Can't wait for her to just go away for once and for all.

Who is opposed to her on the radio? The great thing about the radio is that bad shows get cancelled and higly-rated shows make revenue. That is America to me. Let her fail or succeed. I think that Rush is successful for the same reason that Olbermann is (although on very different levels).

I think she should lead the anti-Obama revolution and get the GOP back on top of its game. She has a good shot at the nomination in any of the forthcoming presidential years, including 2012.
If you'll notice, all the stuff the detractors use to bash her are the same media lies that she told them to "stop makin things up" about.
Only uninformed idiots will continue to bash her, while those of us who read beyond what Keith Olbermann and his lackey wash woman from Homer have to say probably have a better understanding of who she really is.
