Chilean Court Okays Homage to Ex-dictator Augusto Pinochet
Santiago de Chile, June 8 (RHC)--The approval by the Santiago de Chile Court of Appeals of an homage to former dictator Augusto Pinochet has triggered a wave of criticism by large political and social sectors in the South American nation.
The court ruled out a protection motion against such tribute, which was filed by the Organization of Relatives of the Detainees and Disappeared, and then approved the controversial action, PL news agency reported from Santiago.
Organization president Lorena Pizarro said that the court has turned its back on the victims of the Pinochet dictatorship and he called on the people to demonstrate against what he described as support of state terrorism in Chile.
Opposition and population sectors, as well as many social organizations criticized the position of the government towards the approved tribute which reportedly includes the documentary film titled “Pinochet”, recently awarded by Miami-based reactionary circles.
