Sony Blames Time Crunch For Cutting The Vita From Their E3 Press Conference

The main focus of Sony's nearly 90 minute media briefing on Monday was debuting games for the PS3 and talking about other gaming initiatives, such as PlayStation Mobile. As a result, there was very little said about their newest system: The PlayStation Vita. In an article today from GameSpot, Sony's president, Shuhei Yoshida, explained that Sony had been criticized in the past for conferences that were too long. As a result, they wanted to keep things "very compact and impactful."

However, Yoshida does mention that there are 25 playable titles on the floor at E3, even though only 3 titles were talked about during the briefing: Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified. They also announced that the new White Playstation Vita bundle would include Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, the first game in the franchise to feature a female assassin. The last thing they they talked about, regarding the new handheld, was that PSone classics would soon be downloadable on the Vita.

  • I find that statement hard to believe considering they went thirty minutes over budget thanks to the botched Wonderbook presentation. I'm sure they could have compiled a brief montage video like previous conferences. My thoughts? They only presented meaningful titles, or titles they know will sell like Black Ops Declassified and Assassin's Creed III: Liberation.
  • it wasnt the best E3 overall...
  • Because we needed SO MUCH TIME on the wonderbook. I seriously wanted to shoot someone after I saw that.
  • Why don't Sony or Microsoft schedule other press events throughout the week, like Nintendo's developer roundtable last night, or the 3DS event this evening?
  • Why not cut out of the Wonderbook time for the Vita?
  • damn wonderbook

  • Maybe they should have done a separate conference for their handheld like Nintendo. Or maybe they don't have much to show at all except the tripple a games and ports. This is starting to look like a repeat of the psp's problems :/
  • Even as a Sony fan I find that hard to believe. If that's truly the case, why haven't any of these games been mentioned?

  • So how about dumping the stats that no one cares about and forgetting about that wonderbook e reader that won't sell? How do you pretty much totally omit your 2nd major system? No wonder Sony is so deep in the red, they don't seem very smart at times.
  • Were they pressed for time when they were marketing the thing too? -.-

  • Whatever. That's Sony everybody.
  • Time crunch yea right. You just know not that many people own a vita yet. Make good games for it, allow another id....and it may do better

  • They spent 15 minutes on a interactive book program no one will buy and let Ubisoft show off 2 games that they already shown in their own press conference, I think they have only but themselves to blame.
  • *looks at Wonderbook*. yea, time well spent.
  • I blame Wonderbook

  • So that's why

  • Yeah, this needs to be really longer. How about this Sony? During E3, today or tommorow, you'll say that some PS2 Classics would be downloadable on the Vita. How about ATV Offroad Fury 1-4? Cool? Cool.

That's all you need Sony, that's all you need.

  • You didn't have enough time? That can't be an excuse for them. If you didn't have enough time, then you could've cut something out of the presentation (like wonderbook). Another option is to do what Nintendo is doing. They are making a separate conference for the 3DS, so Sony could've done that for the Vita.

  • lies, they spent like 10 minutes of that Wonder Book crap.
