The Last Of Us Shows Off Its Moves

Update: Trailer added. Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic game looks mighty fine on stage at Sony's conference.

Joel and Ellie begin the on-stage playable demo as they head out into a ruined city coated with overgrowth and grass. Low water coats the ground of a hotel as they crawl into its interior. The early minutes inside the ruined building are quiet but creepy.

Crawling out onto a rooftop, Joel hears voices inside the nearby building. Immediately, the two main characters begin to sneak, sure that the strange men are hostile. Joel sneaks back inside and strangles one of them from behind, and then grabs his gun. A running fight ensues through the hotel as Joel takes out one combatant after another.

Stopping in a room, a pause menu is pulled up. Joel crafts a Molotov cocktail and lights one of his attackers on fire. In a final brutal exchange, Joel wrestles with the last enemy. Ellie stabs the man from behind, and she is flung away, but Joel is given time to slam the butt of a shotgun into the man's face. He falls, and cries for mercy, but the demo ends with Joel pulling the trigger to kill the him.

The Last of Us looks visually remarkable, and the intense and visceral violence is a far cry from the pulpy action of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.

  • Shotgun to tha face!!! That demo blew me away man! The world looks gorgeous, the voice acting is top notch and the gameplay looked like a blast to control.

I'm really liking the juxtaposition between the beauty in the forgotten environments, and the gritty realism in the sudden and extreme violence.

    I am excited beyond belief!
  • Amazingly Brutal and serious attention to detail
  • By far the standout of e3 so far in my opinion.
  • It was incredible.

  • Idk what's more insane. Farcy 3 or this?
  • The G4 coverage was horrendous. I mean, I can't really blame them but the censoring was unreal and made it hard to watch. Looked good though.
  • SPOILERS ALERT!!!

...game of the year, duh. But for now just game of the show ^^.

  • Ok, this one definitely takes best in show, beating out Watch Dogs. I'm not sure Nintendo will beat this beast.
  • Looked good...but not as good at Watch Dogs.
  • The demo was... incredible. A fantastic way to end the conference.
  • Starting to pick up an over the shoulder 3rd person theme for this e3...
  • I loved every time Ellie attempted to help out.  It made me want to protect her and I'm not even playing the game yet.

  • The "Hey A$$hole" and shotgun to the face single handedly saved Sony's conference. Besides this game, there is nothin Sony should be proud of that occured today.
  • Woo baby, this is going to be good.

  • Was i the only one that noticed that when he leaned up against the coat rack, that the coats moved and jingled. For some reason small things like that sell games to me. Like the water physics in Skyrim.
  • I loved how the crowd went crazy BEFORE the gameplay sample was over lol This single-handedly made the Sony conference awesome.

  • exclusive 360 gamer saying game of e3
