What is DCAS?
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) ensures that City agencies have the critical resources and support needed to provide the best possible services to the public.

Specifically, the agency:

  • supports City agencies’ workforce needs in recruiting, hiring and training City employees;
  • provides overall facilities management for 50 public buildings;
  • purchases, sells and leases real property;
  • purchases, inspects and distributes supplies and equipment;
  • establishes, audits and pays utility accounts that serve more than 4,000 buildings;
  • implements energy conservation programs throughout City facilities. 

How is DCAS organized?
DCAS provides central administrative services to all City agencies through its main Lines of Services:

What is the history of DCAS?
Established in 1996 by the merger of the former Departments of General Services and Personnel, DCAS was created as part of an initiative to streamline government and make it more responsive.

How many employees does DCAS have?
DCAS is made up of nearly 1700 diverse and talented professionals. They include architects, engineers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, lawyers, mechanics, procurement specialists, information technology specialists, custodians and managers, all dedicated to making government work for the people of the City of New York.

Where is DCAS located?
DCAS is headquartered in the Municipal Building, located at 1 Centre Street in Manhattan, directly across the street from City Hall.  In addition, DCAS has offices in several locations throughout New York City, including the Brooklyn Navy Yard, 2 Washington Street in Lower Manhattan and testing centers at 2 Lafayette Street in Manhattan and 210 Joralemon Street in Brooklyn.  DCAS employees work in every public office building in New York City.
