Microsoft unveils the next Gears of War

Hoping its a prequel to the whole series, showcasing The Battle of Aspho Fields...which leads up to the imprisonment of Marcus Fenix, would would explain why there is a COG in handcuffs/shackles

Not surprised to see another GoW game, MS would not want to lose one of its biggest exclusive franchises, especially with HALO now getting its reboot and the real prospect of the next Xbox coming sooner rather then later

If anything, I sense its a launch title for the next Xbox, something that alongside all the game delays to 2013, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite for example, could well be used as a launch line up for the next Xbox

Whilst I love the Gears franchise. Isn't this a little soon to be announcing another game? I mean only 8 or so months after Gears 3 came out and most likely with the same style of gameplay. However I shall hold my judgements till E3.

Pretty much this... I've nothing against Gears and quite enjoy it, but with shooters at saturation point and the fact #3 was only out recently why don't they focus on some of the other franchises in their catalogue that have gone missing - new Crackdown/Viva Pinata anyone? Maybe they could do with Gears what they did with Halo Wars too, also a good alternative. Will wait and see what else is announced but like the Halo reboot i find i meet this news with more apathy than excitement...

This the unexpected announcement Ed? Disappointed if so, fatigue a major factor.

I love Gears of War, and 3 could quite happily last me forever as I barely go on it. Rumours suggest it might be made by People Can Fly - and could be a FPS.

I too await more news, if this is only what Microsoft can conjour... depressing.

I know it is only about 8 months since 3 was released but there is often quite a delay between announcing and releasing a title. I am sure it won't be released until maybe late 2013 so approx 2yrs after 3 came out.

I wonder if they will do anything different from a 3rd person shooter?

I've found myself getting bored of shooters lately, say what you will but to me they're all starting to feel the same.

Hopefully we get a new franchise as well, but until then I can't say it excites me very much.

I too want another Viva Pinata, hell with enough work I could see it using both the Kinect and controller. Another Kameo perhaps?

That's even more depressing though as that is when we're all expecting the Xbox Gertrude to be released, so revealing this game for that release window dashes hopes for that unless gert is announced next week too. I find Gears is only brilliant due to its lengthy development cycles, the amount of polish given too is great and makes the game obviously look astounding. Each had 3 years spent on it. If this is by people can fly it could be interesting. But bastardising a franchise is getting really old and quite embarrassing for microsoft in sonys exclusive happy showings.

I'm finding it hard to get excited about this. It's not long since 3 came out, and what a dull and disappointing outing that was. Epic seem to have lost their way a bit, who knows if they can get it back.

I won't be set at Aspho fields, seeing as locust reavers are in the background. Aspho fields took place years before E-day, plus this event didn't lead to Marcus's imprisonment. His Imprisonment came 9 years after E-day at the Battle of Ephyra where he a banded his post to save his father. The blacked-out character could be Marcus, seeing as they emphasis the handcuffs. But he wouldn't get arrested by Onyx guards, seeing as they only act on Chairmen Presscots orders and it was Hoffman who had Marcus arrested.

I also think the blacked-out character could be Adam Fenix being kidnapped by the Onyx guards, on Presscots orders. We know this happens. I think the house being attacked in the background by the reavers could be Mansion (Fenix Estate) It's either Adam or Marcus!

I personally hope it's Marcus as it's him that made Gears badass. I can't see a Gears Of War without him, I don't think it will be as good... RAAMS shadow proves this. Never the less, I'm excited for this, Gears is my favourite universe, I'll gladly take more of it.
