Skyrim Kinect support announced - Skyrim DLC gets Dragonshouty

Over 200 voice commands possible: first gameplay trailer

Bethesda has announced Kinect support for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, to be released as free Skyrim DLC. It'll add more than 200 voice commands to the game, including commands for Dragon shouts, hotkeys, followers and inventory selections.

"Adding a new dimension to Skyrim's gameplay, the Kinect for Xbox 360 integration offers Voice Commands throughout the game including Dragon Shouts, Hotkey Equipping, Follower Commands, and all Menus (Items, Magic, Map, Barter, Container, Favorites, and Skills)," reads a press release.

Now your mum will be able to hear you screaming lizards to death.
"With Voice Commands, quickly create and load saves during gameplay and access menus and inventories. Skyrim's Kinect for Xbox 360 Support also adds new functionality including special map functions, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort inventory items by name, weight, and value."

They've sent out a trailer to exhibit all this. Watch and weep.

The release continues: "Skyrim Kinect for Xbox 360 Support is the latest in free feature updates that Bethesda Game Studios has added to enhance Skyrim, and more are coming. In addition, Bethesda Game Studios has been hard at work on creating the first set of game add-ons that will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

"This additional content will add new quests, locations, features, and much more to the world of Skyrim. Stay tuned, we hope to officially announce what it is soon."

A budding hacker coded the PC version of Skyrim to accept Kinect commands last year. No word on whether he's involved with this. Happy now, Cliff Bleszinski?

  1. Very impressive, cant wait for this!

Although i need a list of what to say as there are so many, and pronouncing those spells is going to be difficult lol

    So when is it out?

  2. No release date as yet, I'm afraid.

    FUS

  3. As I said in another aticle, right now this is the way forward with Kinect. Quite nice that's it's free too.

  4. Good old Bethesda, never let their fans down with the dlc. While i am not bothered about the Kinect one,the future one with added quests and such sounds tasty,HURRY UP !!!!!!.

  5. According to Eurogamer it's this month, also I read Peter Hines said there was going to be some DLC this month.. perhaps this is it. (although I could be wrong). I have got Kinect so will give it a whirl.

  6. AHEM.

  7. That is brilliant, I want a kinect; Fus Ro DAH! £80 well spent I would say, damn my non-rich status.

    Same here. Sounds really enjoyable

This is like when people leave a high five hanging.

 Same here,i reckon i would be tempted to get Kinect, just for this.

  11. I was just saying last night on the Xbox controller blog post that more games should have Kinect modes that enhance the game rather than just building simplistic stuff around Kinect. Being able to FUS RO DAH! at the TV, which if I'm honest I tend to do anyway, and have my new Breton Dovahkiin do it too is very tempting. This, ME3 and Dance Central might just be enough for me to take the plunge next time I'm flush.

  12. I really excited I got the dust collector now, and that I didn't trade Skyrim the other day like I was going to. Think a new start is in order for this DLC.

Oh and Ed we left you hanging cos of the "get rid of the controller" stickler you wrote  you bad boy

  13. sounds great.although im probably gonna have to have a sheet of A4 paper next to me with all of the shouts spelt phonetically .which will mean i will have to pause the game to look them up until i can memorise them all...

  14. i'll probly get an asbo for shouting Fus Ro DAH :)

  15. Another pointless addition that requires a worthless device that only adds to the generic mono rail games (Fable the journey comes to mind)
    Keep giving Micro$oft money.

  16. Molyneux would slap you sir.

But what if he said he was going to slap him, would it come to fruition?

  18. Yeah but instead of a velvet glove slap it would be one made out of disappointment.

Lol, how dare you mock the legend of false promise and destroyer of dreams.

Personally I think this is one of the best uses of kinect to date, to take an a* killer app game and add genuinely purposefull and useable kinect features is brilliant!

I want kinect features on battlefield, I just want one voice command and that's reload!

And yet Skyrim is in no way a monorail game, and this is adding a whole new dimension to the experience, go figure.

This is frigging annoying, I had the option of getting a kinect last month, and opted not to as my living room is small and I wouldn't really have had space for it, but now with this, I wish I had one, and I don't have the money for it now. BAH!

Still waiting for my goblins to be added in a dlc, that's the free one I most want atm. Skyrim has a bit of a dearth of variety of enemies, me likey more creatures.

  24. This is an awesome idea! Although i hope this isn't what they've been working on the whole time as iv'e rinsed skyrim now and im desperate for DLC!

  25. So where is the bloody DLC then?
