Star Wars: 1313 gameplay - LucasArts loses the Force

New bounty hunting effort trades in lightsabers for blasters

Almost every Star Wars game in the history of ever has put you behind the business end of a lightsaber, and that's fine with us because being a Jedi is really cool. But Lucasarts has finally given the world a glimpse of the much-rumoured Star Wars: 1313, and things look to be a little different this time.

Ahead of the full gameplay demonstration at E3 later today, Creative Director Dominic Robillard debuted some real-time footage from the demo on Spike TV. Rather than playing a Jedi Knight, you take on the role of a bounty hunter sent to the criminal underworld of the city-planet Coruscant on - wait for it - level 1313.

This is good news for any of you who always empathised with Boba Fett. Your character gets to fashion his own weapons and bounty hunter gadgets rather than using a big glowy stick that goes 'whum'. The brief gameplay footage also shows combat featuring the ever-convenient waist high crate, and what Robillard describes as "death defying platforming". It's also set to be rated M, so we can hope for grittier fight sequences and more blood than, say, Lego Star Wars, and the smuttier of you can keep fingers crossed for Twi'lek dancers.

1313 doesn't have a confirmed platform yet, but as seasoned Pazaak players we suspect it's going to be on next gen consoles. Robillard stresses that effort was made to make sure "the game transitions seamlessly in and out of gameplay and cutscenes" and confirms that the demo was developed on a high end PC.

Stay tuned for more info on Star Wars 1313 as it comes.

  1. Kind of made me think it's a star wars uncharted game.

  2. Great another gears of war-esque cover to cover shooter

  3. At first, I thought it would be bad but the engine has proved me oh so wrong

  4. Is that PC footage? If so, it'll be interesting to see how good it actually looks on xbox. If it's xbox, then WOW!

  5. It's PC for definite, said so on spike tv.

  6. I have a bad feeling about this...

Actually, that's not strictly true, I just felt like a quote moment. That said let's hope it's more than just room after room of cover shooting. I think not having force powers to worry about will up the difficulty though, which will be quite nice.

  7. As I said on the first thread for this I really greatful to be skipping the lightsaber and force stuff for once. Yes it's cool, but for someone like me who reads all the books, comics and every part of the Expanded SW universe EVERYTHING since the prequels has been Jedi v Sith with very little to tell them apart. It'll be nice to get back to the Han Solo scum and villiany side of the Universe I loved so much as a kid.

I wonder if it'll be a full on star wars game though or a more traditional shooter set in the star wars universe? Maybe they'll have unlockable perks like lightsaber dagger/bayonet for melee kills, or force sprint to make your guy run faster, or killstreak rewards where you can call in a helicopter that has lightsabers for rotors and drops force lightning bombs? And then they could add a multiplayer which put you all against each other and has all these perks as unlocks in one big long never ending tree? How does that sound...? :D

(Yes you're right, completely shit! )
