Sound Byte Radio Episode 2: Hitman: Blood Money, FF XIII, Mass Effect

Jonathan Toyad
By Jonathan Toyad, Associate Editor

On GameSpot's next music podcast episode, we check out the music of Hitman, FF XIII, and even a little bit of a Mass Effect tribute.

GameSpot Sound Byte

Greetings and salutations, fellow music listeners. Welcome to the second episode of Sound Byte Radio, your biweekly dose of video game music all in one listenable pseudo-mixtape podcast.

This week's offering will take you to modern times where electronica and orchestra combine into one smooth melding, as well as a piano rendition of a Final Fantasy theme. Today's show will also show off a sample of a concept album, which is a compilation of songs which never made the final cut of a game, as good as they are. In this case, the game in question is the Mass Effect trilogy.

If you like what you hear, leave a comment below or PM me with your two cents. Hope you enjoyed this week's offering.

HUh intersting ! Though not every game has music that can be listened to outside of it's game content. Outside of it is just pure embarrassing geekness.

that hitman piece was really good. and the mass effect one was nice, too. but i really didn't like the theme they used in ME3, with the soft piano intermixed with the blaring trumpets (the one that plays in the beginning when the little kid dies in the shuttle explosion in vancouver) i thought it didn't flow at all and was really just kinda cheesy. anyone else feel this way? anyways, great show.

actually no i think the Hale version was used for that crappy movie. I think something different was used in the game.

@gamerxzx lol Ave Maria doesnt sing the song, Ave Maria is the name of the song. There are many variations of that song. The version in Blood Money was sung by Christina England Hale.

Great music, I really love the music from Final Fantasy XIII, since the composer also worked on some of the music for my all-time favorit game, Final Fantasy X.

Among all of the songs featured here, I can only say that A Soldier's Pride is a good song. It has that reckless feelings in it. Although it is much better if they change the title to A Mercenaries Pride because the song didn't have the rule obligation and self control atmosphere that a soldiers must have.

Always great to hear piano versions of FF music. And I'm glad to see Big Giant Circles get some love. His stuff is always great.
