Dead Space 3 Co-op Revealed

Update: EA has released a new trailer for the game, which shows off co-op and a host of other highlights.

Original Story: During Electronic Arts’ E3 2012 press conference, the publisher showed off two-player co-op in Visceral Games’ new horrorfest, Dead Space 3. The company also revealed which month we can look forward to playing the game in. Isaac Clarke and his new partner John Carver face off with a gigantic beast on planet’s frozen surface.

John and Isaac breach a door and emerge outside on the harsh planet of Tau Volantis, but not before Carver mutters, “F--- this planet.” The duo is greeted by a stunning reddish-orange horizon. The beautiful scenery is cut short by a furious firefight with what appear to be crazed armed Unitologists. Isaac and Carver roll behind some boxes and begin blasting away at their enemies.

The fight is quickly interrupted by a gigantic insectoid beast that shatters through the planet’s thick, icy crust. The beast opens its gaping maw and begins vacuuming up the scrambling humans. After swallowing most of the Unitologists, Carver and Isaac struggle to their feet and begin fighting the monster. The two roll-dodge away from its smashing claws and aim for a glowing orange spot on its belly. Eventually the mutant insect overcomes the duo and sucks Isaac into its mouth, and the demo fades to black. Suddenly the screen lights up again, showing Isaac alive and crawling within the beast’s intestines as he’s slowly digested.

EA also announced that the game will be arriving on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2013.

  • ...what the hell. They ruined it. Now it's Gears of Space. Machine guns? Cover? WHERE ARE THE SCARES?
  • At least TRY to be scary...looks awesome...but not scary...I never was scared though.
  • Yeah it definitely looks like they're changing it and kinda bastardizing it, but at the same time, how many times could they keep using the same setting before it got too boring?
  • Yea, there are also human enemies :/

  • The demo didn't scare me at all, or look scary in any way. I'm a HUGE Dead Space fan, and I love the series and the horror. That said, this looks actually great, and the ending of the demo was wild. It looks action filled though, and that worries me. Maybe it's just the co-op section, but I hope they keep the series what it started out as, horror. I'm going to remain optimistic.
  • I just want it to be scary. I'm all for extra features but if it has co-op at least make it scary for a group of players.
  • Sounds awesome! Can't wait for this!

  • *facepalm* E3 really is dropping the ball with dissapointments. What was wrong with Dead Space's previous gameplay in the first 2?

  • While Dead Space was never scary, it at least had atmosphere, this has gone the RE 5 route, but just sooner in the series. I will probably still play the campaign alone cause I'm still interested in the story, and, despite it not being scary, probably have fun.

  • Look's like Dead Space is also giving up survival horror, just like Resident Evil.
  • And....where is the survival horror?
  • "Oh look five minutes of gameplay that features cover shooting, they must have thrown any semblance of horror out the window" - stupid commentators. I swear you guys love to jump the gun with this. It'll be plenty scary. Hell I bet that drill bit (heh, drill bit) would have been hella scary by yourself.
  • ok cool human enemies
  • I realize we haven't seen much yet, but what I remember from playing Dead Space is darkness. Bring back the scares please, or show us that they are still there.
  • Attention developers, Co-Op IS NOT SCARY. PERIOD.
  • Looks like Gears of Lost Space 3 to me.. Here's hoping it's not all like this. Here's hoping it was just a "action sequence" to get people intrigued in the series who previously weren't. I hope it still has the survival horror through most of the game. With or without a friend.
  • I am worried but very hopeful that it all works out in the end. I just hope the franchise doesn't go the route that Resident Evil did.

  • "The fight is quickly interrupted by a gigantic insectoid beast that shatters through the planet’s thick, icy crust." Sounds like Lost Planet to me.
  • niceness :D

  • They once again destroyed a perfectly good survival horror franchise to satiate the hunger of COD d-bags.
