While non-English speaking Websites are not explicitly forbidden, sites must be accessible to our predominantly English speaking judges. In categories that may not depend on language, such as (but not limited to) Art or Weird, non-English speaking sites are eligible if they are highly visual or otherwise not dependent on language.

All Online Film & Video entries in a foreign language MUST be dubbed or subtitled.

Visit the eligibility & guidelines page for more information regarding foreign language entries.

CATEGORIES

Which category should I enter?

The Webby Awards now has four entry types to choose from: Websites, Interactive Advertising (Banners, Rich Media, Viral, etc.), Online Film & Video, and Mobile. We designed and added categories to allow participants to choose an entry category that best fits their media. There can be overlap in some of the categories and it is up to the entrant to choose which is most appropriate for that particular entry. An entry can be entered to multiple categories as appropriate. If work is entered in multiple categories, it may win multiple times. The Academy reserves the right to move entries to other categories if it is clearly appropriate to do so.

Can I enter more than one category?

Yes, each year many entrants enter multiple categories as multiple categories allow for our judges to evaluate your entry based on the parameters of each appropriate category, thus increasing chances of winning. In the past, several Websites have won multiple categories. Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile also have the potential for winners in multiple categories.

JUDGING

How do you pick the judges for your competitions?

The Webby Awards are overseen by the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences. Visit The Academy Website to learn more.

Can you explain how the sites are judged?

Please see judging process and judging criteria.

Is it possible to receive the judges rating and comments for my site?

Due to the historic volume of entries, the Webby has not offered individual comments to its entrants. For Webby updates and news, please sign up for our newsletter, the 011. Click here to sign up.

How do you judge the Mobile entries?

The Academy will judge all Webby Mobile entries on hand-held devices thus ensuring that the entry is evaluated according to the criteria in its intended medium.

WINNING AN AWARD

How many entrants win Webby Awards?

For each of the 100+ categories, the Academy will select five (5) Nominees which represent the five best in the category. Out of the Nominees, one (1) Winner will be selected and will win the coveted Webby Award in that specific category. Additionally, the online community, through a public vote, will also select a Winner from the Nominees in each category. These sites receive a Webby People's Voice, Agency Voice or Critic's Voice Award depending on which entry type was entered.

Additionally, entries that are not chosen as Winners or Nominees, but are notable in their achievement, may be recognized as an Official Honoree by the Academy. There may be multiple entries (or no entries) in each category designated an Honoree. We reserve the right to honor less than five nominees in any category should the quality of work not meet standards set by the judging criteria.

What do I get if I win a Webby Award or if my entry is chosen as a Nominee or Honoree?

To help promote achievement, the Webby provides its winners the notable Webby Statuette (additional statuettes can be purchased) and an icon for the winners' Websites or publications. Nominees and Official Honorees may purchase a framed certificate and will receive an icon for their Websites as well. All Winners, Nominees and Honorees will be included on the winners page of the Webby site.

Webby Winners, Nominees, and Honorees have an unparalleled opportunity to promote the recognized entry and the firm or professionals that created it. There is tremendous recognition, prestige and public relations opportunity associated with being selected by the Academy, see top ten reasons to enter.

Can I buy additional Webby Awards statuettes for members of my team, clients and others if I win? Can I buy framed certificates or other merchandise to commemorate being selected as a Nominee or Honoree?

Yes. To help promote achievement, the Webby provides its winners the notable Webby Statuette and an icon for the winners' Websites or publications. Additional statuettes can be purchased. Nominees and Honorees may purchase a framed certificate and will receive an icon for their Websites as well. Do you hold an event that we have to attend to receive our award?

Traditionally, Webby Winners are honored at a Gala Awards event held in early June. See some highlights from last year's event or read about it here. The 13th Annual Webby Awards will be held in early June in NYC. The VIP invite-only awards celebration is a major media event where you get to rub elbows with other winners and the industry's foremost professionals, luminaries and celebrities. Winners do NOT need to attend to receive their awards, although many do attend.
