  • My (Belated) E3: Planetside 2, Samsung Cloud Gaming, Watch Dogs & Wrap Up

    4 1

I've finally caught up with my lack of E3 sleep, so am posting my last day experiences and wrap up. Better late than never, I hope. In case you haven't already seen footage of the demos I'll be writing about, or you simply want a different perspective, I'll fill you in on the sights and sounds of the show's finale.

  • My (Belated) E3: Divinity Debut, DayZ's Hall, Raven's Cry, Otherland, Kartuga & More

    4

In retrospect, E3 was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Whether finishing officework in advance, coordinating schedules, prepping for meetings and blogging, nevermind trying to not be an absentee family man, I was burning the candle at both ends. But I survived considerable sleep deprivation to blog another day,

  • My E3: Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider & Resident Evil 6

If the Electronic Entertainment Expo teaches anything it's patience. The kind of patience we learn from the Magic Kingdom. Indeed, E3 is a kind of magic kingdom where attendees wait in lines for more lines all in hopes of experiencing something wondrous. While I spent the majority of my first day on Tuesday in slow processionals, it did pay off from time to time.

  • My E3: Pre-Show Buildup

    4

I realize many of you likely gorged on the Electronic Entertainment Expo's press briefings yesterday and considered it the start of the convention. The irony for me is that any other year I would have done the same at least in the evening, but this... More
  • Making Imaginary Friends in Dragon's Dogma

    15

    More
The further I venture into Dragon's Dogma the more deep -- and satisfying -- the game becomes. Not only does my character, Lhyria, demonstrate more potential, but the pawn system comes into its own as an innovative and welcome addition. Indeed Capcom's... More
  • Dragon's Dogma Gets a Second Chance to Make a First Impression

    13

    More
Despite conventional wisdom, I did give Dragon's Dogma a second chance to make a good first impression. Not that my initial impression was poor, but more on that later. Both fledgling attempts revealed some interesting takeaways on Capcom's foray... More
  • Sniper Elite V2 Had Greatness in its Sights

    6

    More
Rebellion Developments' first Sniper Elite game was an exceptional shooter that successfully mixed tactical gameplay with arcade elements in a world fraught with danger and opportunity. Its remake is a commendable and rewarding update, but whose tweaks... More
  • Minecraft Pockets the Fun

    10

    More
Minecraft might be all the rage on Xbox 360 now, but not so long ago I had no idea what this title was though I was sure I wanted nothing to do with it. Old school graphics sans guns, swords or explosions? Where do I sign up ... to petition that Mojang... More
  • How Special Is Spec Ops?

    5

    More
I've been waiting for Spec Ops: The Line ever since the first reveal, but now the wait is nearly over and its demo has snuck up on us. Does its unique setting offer intriguing gameplay or cloud otherwise standard elements? The story is certainly a... More
  • This Hybrid Is a Compelling Mix

    3

    More
Hybrid is a strange concoction to judge by its closed beta that began Friday. It is an online shooter that is cover-based AND airborne, as well as multipath AND on-rails. There are even knife kills, albeit by a surrogate bot. 5th Cell has created a curious... More
  • How Witcher 2 Helps Me Feel Like a Kid Again

    11

    More
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings by CD Projekt RED can spark a sense of childhood wonder, wonder at what the heck is going on and how in the world am I supposed to do that!? Granted, my gaming even after decades of practice leaves something to be desired... More
  • The Return of Sniper Elite and the Immersive Shooter

    10

    More
Six and a half years ago a game was released to little fanfare and mediocre critical reception. Like most games it quickly faded from memory for most -- except for a small devoted following including the studio that created it. So it's exceedingly... More
