Originating in Manchester, UK, in 1990, Take That are one of the few British acts to achieve the transition from teen pop sensations to mature, adult-orientated band. Between the band’s first single release (Do What U Like/Promises) in 1991 and the departure of Robbie Williams to pursue a solo career in 1996, the BBC described Take That as “the most successful British band since the Beatles, beloved of young and old alike.”
The band reformed without Williams in 2006 and released their first new single in 10 years, Patience, which was followed by the album Beautiful World. Their follow-up to that, The Circus, went on to become one of the fastest million-sellers in UK history in December 2008, reaching the landmark in little over two weeks. They are now also one of the most celebrated acts in Brit Awards history, with seven statues to their name, along with Robbie Williams additional 12 as a solo act.
