Assassin's Creed 3 due this year?

Eddie Makuch
By Eddie Makuch, News Editor

Supposed 2012 release schedule indicates new entries in Assassins' Creed, Splinter Cell, and Prince of Persia franchises due later this year; Just Dance Final Party also rumored.

Source: Gaming news site Gameranx.

What we heard: If a purported Ubisoft 2012 release schedule proves accurate, the publisher will ship new entries in many of its major franchises--including Assassin's Creed 3--before the year is out.

Gameranx got hold of Ubisoft's alleged 2012 software release schedule and on it were several announced titles, led by Assassin's Creed 3. No further information regarding that game was made available, though Ubisoft said last year that a "full-fledged" Assassin's Creed game was due out in 2012.

Additionally, the calendar shows that a new Splinter Cell title--Splinter Cell: Retribution--will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this year. A new Splinter Cell game is currently in development at the publisher's outfit in Toronto, but it has not been officially announced.

The schedule also indicates that a new entry in the Just Dance franchise reportedly titled Just Dance Final Party will be released this year. That game is rumored to see release for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The Just Dance franchise has sold more than 25 million units, and Ubisoft told GameSpot last month that it was especially pleased with Just Dance's ability to win over hardcore gamers.

The last unannounced title on the supposed 2012 Ubisoft calendar was Prince of Persia for the Wii and 3DS. No further information was provided concerning this title.

The release schedule also mentioned Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, I Am Alive, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon: Future Solider, and Ghost Recon Online, all of which have been previously announced as due in 2012.

The official story: A Ubisoft representative told GameSpot, "We're thrilled and kind of amused to see this lineup news. It shows that players are anxious to hear about Ubisoft's upcoming releases. However, this reported lineup is inaccurate. We guarantee you that you'll hear directly from us soon about the amazing variety of games Ubisoft has slated for fiscal year 2012-13."

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Ubisoft would commission a third core entry in the Assassin's Creed series given the major success of the brand thus far. However, when it will actually ship, only Ubisoft knows. As for the unannounced games, new entries in the Splinter Cell and Just Dance franchises seem likely. However, Ubisoft said the list is inaccurate, indicating at least something is amiss here.

I think they are releasing AC3 because ,as they said, they meant for the franchise to be trilogy so i suppose that this will be the last AC and i think that should be,because the game got old with ACR.They made something new with every release of AC but ACR ,although it was good, it wasn't a big step forward it felt as they got ACB and tried to change it and made ACR out of it.
I was a big fan of AC1 and i liked AC 2 and ACB but i liked POP before so they should end AC now after AC3 and come up with something new and i know they can.

Also, the same AI is getting kind of old. Those big guards with all the armor that used 2 handed weapons? A real problem in AC2. In AC:R, I take them out easily. And i don't think it's because i've gotten that much better at the game....they are simply less of a challenge. I love Ezio's tactics and arsenal of weapons by ACR but, advance the AI so they are a little smarter! And Ubi recycled so much...remember those medical vendors with the green tables all over Italy where you would find a Doctor and could get medicine? Those tables are all over constantinople but without the doctors...just recycled filler!
What i'm saying is, as great as ACR is, it clearly wasn't given quite as much effort as AC2 or even brotherhood.
With AC3, after stepping away from ezio, we should see the dramatic leap forward in the series that we saw from AC1 to AC2. Combat, AI, graphics, locations, physics, animations, everything should be updated. Don't fix what isn't broken, but put some real effort here! This is the big AC3 we've been waiting years for!
In fact, I was HOPING that Ubi would wait to release AC3 in the next gen consoles...that right there would force Ubi to up their game (pun intended)! I really hoped AC3 would be given a little more effort than the annual treatment the extensions of AC2 were given. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

NOOOO! I do NOT want AC3 already! Havent even finished Revelations (i don't play that often) But between revelations, brotherhood, and AC2, it's practically one reallllllyyyyy big game, which I love! but there have been virtually no massive updates to the gameplay since AC2, which was a far cry from AC1 (which was a great idea, just not executed that well until AC2).
Basically what I'm saying is, I hope they've been working on AC3 for a long time, not just since they finished revelations. If not, then they should work on it longer, get rid of some of the stupid bugs/AI glitches/other graphical issues in AC:R, and push that graphics engine even further. Also, go back to more than one city. as big as Rome or Istanbul is, I just wind up using those sewer tunnels to fast travel and never see any of the city basically. And I know there are different districts..but in AC2, the landscapes were so different from Monteriggioni to say Venice, and they all had their own districts. It was great! And horseback riding was fun, they have a pretty good combat system they should take more advantage of it.
Get rid of the castle defense thing. That was utter crap.

@DoubleclickTF Personally, I don't see how the two cases relate. It's just the way the game is.

If you are going to try to make him sound stupid and sexist, at least do it with a proper example to back it up. Otherwise, prepare for backfire.

@TheLoneMortal Ubisoft already announced the arrival of a AC title in 2012. This is because the world ends 12/21/12 in the game. They said It'd be stupid if you were playing the game 12/21/13, so they decided to release it this year. They also said they'd release more AC games after AC3 but with multiple years in between.

Have you ever played through the Half Life 2 series, MGS3 or even Bayonetta?

I already knew all about this, Ubisoft kept saying that the "end of the world" theme in their games should be with the exact date of the 2012 Prediction (which is a false one).

I hope not, it feels too soon, they seem to be bringing AC games out quite regularly...i just want them to take their time, especially for AC3.

Im ready for a new Splinter Cell though, cant wait to see how it turns out.

@true_gamer007 - You can't imagine a female character in AC, but you're alright with the "realism" of one man who is virtually indestructible, carries a million and three weapons, can leap across a street and grab the edge of a brick with his fingertips, instantly repairs damage to his body mid-fight by drinking medicine, and can fall 50ft without dying? Okay then lad.

  • supertom221

@E-i-N-e No. If you bothered to follow the storyline (The main one), you'd know that the world is supposed to end on 2012, it said so in the prophecy, and Desmond must step up and stop it before it happens by finding all the temples around the globe.

Revelations was Ubisoft's biggest mistake, it could possible make AC3 end up being no better than the predecessors. Continuing a story about the end of the world in 2012 AFTER 2012 would be utterly stupid, un-immersive, and a spit in the face to long time fans of the franchise.

In a way, Revelations is almost their way of saying "Hey guys! thanks for all the support! We will now commence the milking process..."

If you have trouble imagining a female assasin... maybe take a look at the online modes? No need to imagine anymore.
However it would be odd having Desmond turn into a woman throughout the game.

This year would be the only one to make sense for AC3. The whole 'modern day' part of the game revolves around 2012 and the end of the world prophecy. What would be the point in releasing the game after that date

  • YayYouFoundAlex

    Posted Feb 15, 2012 5:43 am GMT

It's been obvious that AC3 is coming out this year, seeing as they're trying to finish everything in the same time scale as the game's story. Basically they have to release it before 21st Dec 2012, cause that's when sh*t goes down in the game (and real life if you're into that sort of thing)

  • hunter8man

    Posted Feb 15, 2012 5:43 am GMT

No, just take a year or two off from this franchise to keep the quality. No need to muck it up with yearly installments. Besides, I'd be just fine with a new Splinter Cell until then.

  • Valen_Ca

Ubisoft has released a new Assassins Creed game every year since 2 so if they don't release a new one this year that will be breaking their launch schedule for the game, something I don't think that they will do, here is to hoping it finally ends the story that started with Assassins Creed.

"something is amiss here" According to gamers, something is very amiss with Ubisoft. It's too bad that I am Alive doesn't have a PC version, it's the only title that seems interesting. The others will probably be good, but you know what you'll get.

They should focus on closing the Desmond - Altair - Ezio story arch in Assassin's Creed. In each game the plot gets thinner and more stretched... I really like this franchise but finish it up already!

It will take a lot to make me buy assassins creed 3 A LOT.
I bought AC2 and loved that game after i bought Brotherhood and it was a ok game but nothing really new from AC2 and i didn't have intention to buy revelation but still did since i got it cheap and i wanted to finish the story.
But now Ubisoft have lot of work to do if they hope to get more money for me because that won't be easy.

Whatever happened to developers taking their time to get it right? These days too many just rush games out because of publisher deadlines, and the games & gamers suffer for it. I'm not saying get trapped inside the event horizon of a black hole like Blizzard and Valve, but take your time and make sure your product is as best as it can be, NOT good enough for publishers to rake in cheap cash. Video games used to be an art form for crying out loud. Now it's just another cheap entertainment.

Would you really like a female to be the protagonist?! I can't imagine my female character jumping around wielding a hidden blade and punching those guys who are just double the width of my character. If that happens, i'm definitely gonna leave that game.

  • true_gamer007

I just hope they don't ruin the storyline just to extend them. Stretching a plot meaninglessly is i think not a good option. BTW i love those games, that's why i'm worried about them.
