Game Australia closes 60 stores, 281 jobs lost

Struggling retailer Game Australia has announced that it intends to close 60 stores, causing 264 redundancies.

An additional 17 head office jobs will also be cut.

"This is a difficult time for employees and closing the stores was not a decision we made easily," said administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers' Kate Warwick. "However it is not financially viable to continue to operate at this level at this time."

PwC has pledged to work with the Federal Government to help all staff affected by the cuts.

The move follows the closure in March of 277 UK stores with the loss of 2,100 jobs.
