Hi, I was just trying to find the best hidden gems within RPG'S, any console any generation. In my opinion the best RPG's are free roamers, or Turn Based here are my favorites.

Fable II: Fable II is my favorite installment to the series, you can free roam it's short and simple and a lot of things to do, you can go off and explore, get married, raise a child, play co-op (Which I admit doesn't work at all.) Get a job or do the main story. With the choice of Good or Evil, this game makes my favorites.

Final Fantasy 7: Yes, I know cliche, but it's just a brilliant twist on a turn based RPG. I won't go as in-depth as I did last time but that is why I chose FF7.

The Elder Scrolls: Utter brilliancy, can you think of a better free roaming RPG? I thought so. Now this series has it all. All the variety let's face it; you can do anything you want and everyone loves this game the battle system is great and gets better throughout the series. Mage, Archer, Warrior, Argonian, Khajit, Nord. Hardly any of the variety.

What's yours? Feel free to post below!!!

my favorite RPG of all time is FF2

i loved FF7 but hated all the FF games since that one.

if you count legend of zelda: link to the past as an RPG then that tops the list (i see it as more of an action/RPG) and not a pure RPG.

fallout 3 is it a shooter or RPG? if RPG it tops all of these

i also love kindoms of amalur reckoning - might not be considered an RPG becuase it's so action/combat oriented

    so i'll say

    1. Legend of Zelda: Link to the past (best game ever - bar none IMO)

    2. Fallout 3

    3. FF2

    4. FF7

    5. KoA:R

My Favorite is Oblivion it's so fun to just wander round and find quests to do. I prefer it to Skyrim because of it setting it's only problem would probably be that it's combat isn't that good.

In no particular order, I consider these RPGs to be the best ones of all-time.

    Planescape: Torment
    Fallout 1 and Fallout 2
    Star Control 2
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 (Second game makes the list if Version 1.7 of the Restored Content Mod is added to it. Excluded otherwise.)
    Dragon Quest VIII
    Final Fantasy IX
    Chrono Trigger
    Final Fantasy IV
    Final Fantasy VI
    The Witcher 1 and 2
    Dragon Age Origins
    Mass Effect 1
Neverwinter Nights 2 and Mask of the Betrayer
    The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
    Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
    Persona 3 and Persona 4

It's a long list I admit, but I've been playing RPGs for a long time.

Give Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 a go. BG2 is my favourite game of all time.

Xenoblade is also excellent if you've got a wii, DS Dragon Quest's.

I havent played a whole lot of rpgs. But Id say every Elder Scrolls game since Morrowind. I remember enjoying one called Legend of Dragoon or something like that. There was a turn based Lord of the Rings game I enjoyed, I cant recall the name now. KotoR was fun. My all time favorites are the Mass Effect games though.

I ate a pregnant lady and a little hand grabbed my tounge.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean for the Gamecube is a nice turn based game with a card based combat system.

I also like any of the GBA or GB Pokemon games, DS ones are just too slow paced. The Paper Mario series is also very good along with Megaman X Command Mission. Oh, Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, and XenoGears!

Just so many that I love!

Borderlands is not an RPG. It is like ME 1---Shooter/RPG hybrid.
