How do I post on the Boards?

To post on the boards, you will first need to create an account. Once you have done that, go to Talk and enter your post in the box at the bottom of the page, or reply to existing posts using the "Reply" button provided.

How do the board filters work?

Posting: The board filters are there to help users be able to have discussions with other users with the same interests. When you create a post in the new post box, you can select up to three categories (New York, Toddler, Special Needs, etc.) that are relevant to your post. If you don't select any, your post will be categorized in "General Topics".

Reading: In the upper right hand corner of your screen you can select the filters you would like to read. So, if you select 'newborn', 'general topics' and 'politics' you will see posts that have been categorized this way.

Please note: For several years now, the 'Toddler' board has been used for postings about 'General Topics'. We encourage users to start using 'General Topics' instead, so that only posts that are truly relevant to 'Toddler' will be posted to that filter.

Are my posts anonymous?

Yes, your posts are anonymous. Other users do not see any of your registration information. Our moderators are able to see your email address, and this is necessary for them to be able to moderate the site effectively, but that information is kept completely confidential. What do all the abbreviations mean?

You will encounter a lot of abbreviations on the UrbanBaby boards that are shorthand for frequently used terms, and keep the pace of conversation moving along quickly. They will seem cryptic at first, but you'll quickly become accustomed to them. The full list is here. Please let us knowif you encounter any others that are not included, and we'll add them.

How do I report offensive or inappropriate posts?

If you click on the 'options' button next to each post you will see a link to 'flag' posts. If you click on this, the moderators will be notified to read and review this post and they will take any necessary actions (i.e. delete the post, suspend the user, etc). Search Help

Basic examples:

Match a word: babies
Match all words: babies sleep
Match an exact phrase: "babies sleep"
Match any words: babies OR sleep
Match one word but not another: babies NOT sleep

Advanced examples:

Match only in the title: title:babies
Combine commands: babies OR sleep NOT crying

The site used to have a lot of good local resource information, where did it go?

UrbanBaby is fully committed to providing rich, thorough, accurate information about local resources to our users. Unfortunately, some of the local resource information on the site previously was out of date. So, in our redesign, we are rebuilding that portion of the site from scratch, starting with our New York and San Francisco blogs. We will be rolling out additional local areas and a full resource database in the next several months.
