Northwestern held Syracuse scoreless in the final 19 minutes and won 8-6 to capture the national championship. The Wildcats have won seven of the last eight national championships.

Northwestern's Shannon Smith scored two goals in her final game, to lead the Wildcats to their seventh national title. Smith finished her career with numerous school records and three NCAA titles.

Syracuse competed for its first national title and unfortunatley the outcome was not what the Orange hoped for. After the game, Syrcause vowed to be a national contender next season.

Taylor Thornton and Erin Fitzgerald each scored a goal in the final 10 minutes to lead Northwestern past Syracuse 8-6 in the NCAA title game. The Wildcats won their seventh national championship.
