Optimize your site

Keywords and search queries

We don't manually assign keywords to sites, and webmasters can't submit a list of preferred keywords for which their sites will appear.

The best way to ensure that your site appears for particular keyword searches is to include them on your pages. Our crawler analyzes the content of webpages in our index to determine the search queries for which they're most relevant. If you create an information-rich site that clearly and accurately describes your topic, it will likely appear in our search results for relevant keywords.

To see if your pages are appearing for a particular keyword on Google News, search for your site from the Google News homepage using our site operator along with a keyword. For example, if The Example Times wanted to see if its investigative series on lemurs was appearing in Google News it would use the following query: [ site:example.com lemurs]

Please keep in mind that we use a number of signals to determine ranking new window in addition to prominence of certain keywords.
