Combat, Classes, and Angry Clowns - Secret World Preview (PC)

I had high hopes for this game.  Although I know it is just a beta, it was rough in my opinion.  I didn't struggle with bugs or lag.  The gameplay was boring, the story was bland, the characters and animations seem stiff, and the graphics were weak.  That said - you should probably be aware that I liked playing GW2 when the Beta weekend came out.  So, im comparing my experience playing TSW with my experience playing GW2. 

I like the concept of the game-play, however, there's a catch in that in will take a lot of time playing to acquire enough weapon Attribute Points and Skill Points to enjoy the variety of play-options the game claims. You'll have to chose that first weapon and run quests a lot to fill in its attributes/skills on the "wheel" of choices. That makes certain quests doable and others not so much. I tend to redo quests just to pick up the Attribute Points and Skill Points. The game is new so you can't Google quest spoilers to help speed up your progress.  That will change as more people play and post information about the game. I guess, for me anyway, the game just isn't that much fun at this point.

I've been playing the game, and it does have promise. All of the issues I have with it so far, are more then likely beta issues. If Funcom cleans SW up nicely it will definitely make it into my PC game collection. :D  I just love the scene.

It's woefully unpolished at this point clearly.

No.. no its not that far away. I really wanted to like this game because there is a part in me that wanted to see Funcom succeed. I honestly feel they should have almost stuck with their Anarchy Online franchise and just made it more up to date with added features and no advertisements of course ;p. It is sad for me to know that The Secret World did not live up to any expectations I had after playing the beta, well aware it's just that a beta, showed me that it is doomed for failure. Unfortunately, Albaficas is right. After checking it out I will say spare the 11-12 gig download - it's a stink burger ;/ and granted SWTOR is better and the sci-fi mmo style of that game is what makes me miss AO that much more. I'm so sorry Funcom I hope it doesn't set anything back too much.

I really hope this game can pick up a decent sized subscriber base, it's far and away the most original looking MMO on the immediate radar that it would be a shame if it were swamped into non-existance by the (also awesome looking) Guild Wars 2 and (the more of the same ol' same ol' looking) Mists of Pandaria WoW expansion. Given an adequate user base to ensure a vibrant community this could be something special IMHO.

dont know what to think of this game. either they not good at promoteing this game or they got nothing awsome to show off and the game is bad. i got a beta key so its not long untill i find out. as a side note it be awsome if they had cars you can buy and drive.then everone can recreate the the joys of traffic jams in real life to in game :D lmao

I'll know for sure this weekend, but I have a feeling this game will be unfinished, buggy, and suffer from a lack of content, eventually switching to a free-to-play model, but once a year or so goes by it will be worth taking another look at. That seems to be Funcom's style.

Got my beta invite the other day, so I'll finally be able to make an informed decision about this one and find out how readily we'll be able to look past the admittedly shoddy character models/animations.

Funcom always has the most amazing character and world design, but the final products seem to be sort of... I don't know... they feel like IKEA furniture. Not solidly held together.

Looks good, combat seems more actiony than I expected.  Voiced NPCs are a big plus too.  As for story, I have always enjoyed Thornquist's work, so looking forward to that as well!

The thing that intrigues me the most about this game is that it doesn't have a class system and it doesn't have levels in the traditional sense. I'm looking forward to giving this a whirl this weekend.
