    Futuristic technology and melee weapons, looks like a copy of Final Fantasy

    Phantasy Star was NOT a 2000's game. Both Lunar and Vay got critical acclaim at launch despite being on the Mega CD.

    Oh yeah,

    Dragon quest was actually really good. last installemnt was similar dragon ball z in odd way, but dam was it good game, blue dragon however i couldn't relate too tyrant boss who had really bad characteristics like eggman from sonic, well not quite but dam weird tho.

    P.S those game yous listed were not 90's winning games. fantasy star was released later in 2000's while dragon quest was in 80's as retro style game but still followed that linear path traditional rpg's followed back then.

    Lunar series failed due cd megadrive's limitations and biased beliefs sega tried so hard to produce, life expectancy from that was abysmal but if likes that game was first titled launch before final fantasy 7 on ps1 then hell yeah it would've beeen first ps1 game to shadow ff7 but they didn't they launched title on sega how ever i found lunar series better then ff series on nintendo but i wonder if formula they had would've been right. all i know is ff7 and star ocean 2 were at par in my opinion never played any game like that back in 90's sad i never will again.

    Fantasy stars more mmorg. mechanics clash fundemental story tellings ok, but games non comparable unless on pc2pc back in 80's.

    All this will be telling me is: developers back then strived for wrong platforms and yes while final fantasy 7 could've failed miserably the team at square-soft thought carefully and patiently in developement and what ever partnership they had with sony back then was result of great title. so any game then possibly had chance for success so i can see why some people would be biased about this game but you can't change history.

    Just shame todays games are so over saturated in choice that developers tryng to find their mojo or ruin entire industry simply for less risks and more greed. I'm not bagging xenoblade just saying it's not final fantasy as final fatnasy isn't xenoblade no rpg's are same that's whats unique about them it's western influence that ruins these titles, they push japanese makers or some alike to revision their plans for profit since surviving in gaming industrys harder now then ever especially if it's name you want.

    @Zophar87 I cannot recall if you've played final fantasy 7 or not because if you did you would understand why game was unique, but if you've played it on pc emulator recently or downloaded it from psn store then it's pointless explaining. If xenoblade was first game on console then yeah it would have been a unique game that took extreme risks. can you list the first jrpg title that hit consoles that was cd based in 90's?.

    The games i think that were true unique jrpg's Suikoden, rare game you could obtain 115 stars each character with uniqu ability's to fight along with.

    Breathe fire 1 2 3 a unique boy who could shift into dragon, 5 how ever was games down fall.

    Star ocean was really comparable game to final fantasy 7 but in odd way. it was unique game, if i had to compare xenoblades with something it would be star ocean: the last hope, wow i've played to many rpg's jesus christ lol.

    Except FF7 didn't bring anything new to the JRPG genre other than make it mainstream.

    @Zophar87

    Very easy understand, back then nintendo had licenses to ff series but when people ravaged about limits at time, they were bound to 2d world, and people seem fine with that until square-soft embarked on journey to cd based platform moving away from nintendo, more data on disk. see you would instantly question space on disk now but back then nothing was comparable on jrpg game or game based in that category, square-soft would’ve easily been downgraded in 2012 if they concocted that now then back then.

    While i recall many pc games that rocked but didn’t have that investment since mostly independent developers were mostly on pc back in mid 90‘s trying to break in to industry

    Ff7 was first true game on console to really break territory’s and first to take risks that’s unseen in today’s world. while game may have been linear on 3 disks it was one journey you cannot forget. if your quoting now why you cannot understand games reason for being good then that’s fine but if you bought the game in 90‘s you also would understand why game had it’s focal point.

    Just when first person who played crysis 1 or first person who played elder scrolls or grand theft auto. now they are either easier to judge and applaud but no matter what!, games have their merit for being something more.

    FF7 is insanely overrated. I'll never see why so many people parade it around like it's the second coming of Jesus. Seriously.
