World in Conflict dev hiring for next-gen

Malmo, Sweden-based Ubisoft Massive seeking online programmer for mystery next-generation project.

World in Conflict developer Ubisoft Massive can now be added to the list of studios working on next-generation projects. A requisition for an online game programmer at the Malmo, Sweden-based shop seeks a staffer to work on a next-gen title.

The project is described as a "modern AAA online game," but no further details on the title are available. As of press time, Ubisoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Ubisoft Massive is presently assisting Ubisoft Montreal on development of Far Cry 3. The studio previously contributed to Assassin's Creed: Revelations and also created the Ground Control series in addition to World in Conflict.

Ubisoft Massive joins a long list of studios working on next-generation projects, including NetherRealm Studios, Naughty Dog, Remedy Entertainment, Bethesda, and Ready at Dawn. Publisher Electronic Arts is gearing up for the next wave of consoles, too, last week revealing it will invest $80 million in future-generation development in 2012.

Will there be a World In Conflict 2 or what? Really they should make one now.

Oh and I would also like to see GC 3 :) it's over due.

Good to hear, however I would of like to have seen an expansion for WiC about the Chinese offensive against America. That's where it left off in the original (not expansion).

World in Conflict was an excellent unsung RTS.  I'm glad the developers are thinking about it again.

Massive's games (i.e. World in Conflict & the Ground Control franchise) are the most underrated RTS games ever. I am just glad tat they're still alive and kicking. Hopefully: World in Conflict 2 plzzzz? (or Ground Control III). And plz, include CUSTOM MAPS for offline multiplayer matches for God's sake. I would also like BASE-BUILDING to be an integral part of the titles (instead of just using deployment points). A lot of gamers shy away from Massive's title because base-building is non-existent.

But does it have to be an "online game"? The industry is pretty sucky at this time.

@SandRunneR Well, considering World in Conflict was a primarily online game, I'd say that that would be a good thing,

@ActionManly I mostly enjoyed it's single player campaign. Don't get me wrong, I like when there is a well-implemented multiplayer mode... I just don't like multiplayer-only games, as well as the always-online policy which is slowly becoming a trend.

Hope the next gen is a real leap forward that can compete the pc's for some years.

WiC is probably my favourite RTS of all time. A sequel would be absolutely amazing.

I hope the next xbox will have aa 6 core 3.2ghz cpu and at least 2 gb of ram and at least 1 gb dedicated to the grphic's card so we can have twice as many enemies on screen twice as bigger enviroment's and twice better graphic's with destructable enviroment's avaidable in pretty much every game

If only they'd return to Ground Control...

(for those who don't know, WiC was practically a cold war version of GC)

ShadowRun02

a game like WiC, doesn't have to have the same plot, (actually, sci-fi will be nice) but anything like that will be incredible (bought WiC in 2011' and i don't regret it since there's always at least one live MP server, and the game is still awesome even by today's standards)

They should go back and create a new Ground Control 3. But I heard the IP still belongs to Sierra who isn't doing anything with it. It bothers me.

Man I loved that game, the campaign was incredible, but I always got rocked online. I never bought the expansion because I heard it is only a couple of hours of gameplay, and I never saw it for cheaper than $20.

It's a tragedy that World In Conflict died out, after being such a great RTS game to play, I hope the studio is working on something awesome.

What does "next-gen" imply? Does this mean MMOG? Or that it will be on platforms such as Xbox 360/PS3 (or their successors)? Or that it will contain certain features?

I get your point but massive have been doing games with strong multiplayer for a long time now. They still give their games great singleplayer campaigns though like world in conflict.

@Zverugin I hear you man, not every game has to be online. But they seem to be all going that way these days.
