South Park: The Game delayed to 2013
Obsidian-developed role-playing game pushed to next year as THQ posts $239.9 million loss for fiscal year; Saints Row: The Third ships 4.25 million, expansion coming in September.
South Park: The Game will not ship this fall as was previously announced. THQ today announced that the Obsidian Entertainment-developed role-playing game has slid to a release date of sometime during the first three months of 2013.
The publisher did not provide a reason for the delay, and as of press time, the company had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
The news comes as part of THQ's latest financial report, which saw the company's net sales for the 12 months ended March 31 rise to $830.8 million, up from the $665.3 million recorded a year ago. It wasn't all rosy for THQ, as the company posted a net loss of $239.9 million for the period, worse than the $136.1 million hit the firm took the year prior.
The company's digital business was a boon for THQ, as revenues in this sector for the year spiked 62 percent to $59 million.
THQ also parsed statistics and let loose some new information for some of its biggest brands. The company said Saints Row: The Third has shipped more than 4.25 million units since its launch in November. Additionally, THQ revealed that the Enter the Dominatrix expansion for Saints Row: The Third will arrive this September. Previously, it was expected sometime this fall.
The company also broke down shipment figures for its major fighting games. THQ said WWE 12 has shipped more than 2.2 million units since its launch in November 2011, up about 20 percent over the previous year's game. Additionally, UFC Undisputed 3 has shipped 1.4 million units since it debuted in February, the company said.
In terms of platform revenue, the Xbox 360 proved most successful for THQ. Microsoft's home console accounted for 36.7 percent of total sales, generating $306.42 million in the process. The PlayStation 3 came in second place, accounting for 27.4 percent of the share, totaling $229.2 million. The Nintendo Wii (14.3 percent share, $119.5 million) and the PlayStation 2 (.4 share, $3.3 million) rounded out the rest.
THQ unveiled a new, streamlined business strategy earlier this year, and today, the company said when the plan is fully realized in fiscal 2013, it is expected to result in a reduction of costs totaling $180 million. Additionally, THQ said it has reduced its commitments to children's licensed properties by about $30 million and reiterated that it is no longer creating software or hardware for the uDraw GameTablet.
im excited for this game i wish it would come sooner. also note that these guys are by far from losing any money what so ever, when u read articles like this it doesnt mean they lost money it means they didnt make as much profit as before, or didnt make as much profit as they expected. so when it says loss, there is no loss per say, its just not what they expected.
weeak,
Danngggg
Aww man, this was actually looking like it'd be a GOOD South Park game too!
Norrie91 it still has potential to be a good game - an RPG style south park is what fans have been craving - don't lose hope!
zerox122 Yeah I know, I'm just dissapointed that we have to wait longer for it... God knows how long I've been waiting for Certain Other Games *COUGH*
Alien: Colonial Marines*Cough*
Typical bullsh!t. Delaying games to boost profits.

Don't be fooled anymore.
$830 millions from sales and they still have a $240 million loss? I am sure the money did not go to the developers. Maybe they need to spend the money we give them in less ads and more quality in games?
JC_AEK4ever they didnt lose money, a loss means they didnt make as much profit as last time. its worded to make people feel bad for them and sound all drastic but in reality they still made a few hundred million
MelodicMizeryUmmm, no. A loss means they lost money. period.
This is the third game now this week announced to be delayed till next year. Is this a new fad?
@ZachBobBob That is SOOO next year....
THQ and South Park? Let's see... future Gamespot rating 5.0
The voicework and graphics are impressive, but the gamesplay is shallow and buggy. bla bla bla...only true die hard fans will find value in this otherwise unremarkable use of the South Park license. On the other hand, I really hope this game is good, as a die-hard fan of anything South Park. I'm still holding onto a little hope, but a the few THQ titles I've played have been all flash and little substance.
Chefjase Amen to that. I think it will be a good game, I've seen the GameInformer's game site and I'm pretty much satisfied with what i saw. I mean, one class is Jew (that's pretty f***ing awesome if you ask me). And the facts that Matt and Trey are working on this and no 3D graphics are just pluses. Well, nothing more to do than wait, until then I'll read South Park Guide To Life again. And THQ, ask yourself one question: "What would Brian Boitano do?"
Crap, I really hope THQ can stay afloat long enough to get this game out the door.
I though this game got canned because of financial reasons?? I am so glad that it hasnt though :D
mtait01 i dont think so i have a article that the south park developers actually had a extreme amount of input in this game because they were big fans of video games and the other games they made they had nothing to do with but this one they actually wanted to work so they sat down with the developers to make it work. the company is far from financial problems
First Bioshock...now South Park? 2012 sucks!!
As long as they release it before they go under...
do not mind the delay as long as they are using the time to make it better. Sucks that they do not provide a reason for the delay though.
YOU BASTARDS! frankly i liked the Chef Luv Shack game ?(???)? ..i wish they upgraded that instead of an rpg type game (~_~;)
dammit....i want to play as Cartman, why so many delays now a days??
Mark my words the south park rpg games gonna be glitchy and just horrible don't waste your money on it. Obsidian barely rarely ever makes any good games independantly and always needs someone to hold their hand I won't be surprised the game gets a 5 when the game finally releases...
First I've heard of this, but it sounds fun!
I really can't wait for the South Park RPG. I have it pre-ordered already. Go underated Obsidian, Go!
Sweet!!! I thought they had canned this one...
I wouldn't mind if this game were delayed... Forever...
Obsidia could be working on some more high profile games but... If they want this, let's wait.
next gen is coming in 2013..for sure...
lpsyco666
I wouldn't count on it
Screw those guys... I'm going home.
who the hell wants a south park game? I don't think anyone is losing sleep over this game being delayed.
Will be sad if THQ die if only because of saints row and darksiders. Obsidain are one of the few devs that might be able to pull off a south park rpg, they seem to have the right sense of humour but its not exactly a big priority for me.
South Park going to be delayed, m'kay.
I really hope THQ can sort this out. They have some great games and I'm a fan. It would be really dissapointing to see them go...
I don't care about the South Park game though
Well THQ got make money and since its a psn and xboxlive title thats not gd enough to reasle it next year . Thq could face the axe and going out bussiness, only time will tell but im dont think south park sell anyways.
eh i hope thay just dump this junk theres never been a good South Park game. and im in shock the dumb show sticks around
Chef's Love Shack was pretty good. Like a weird version of Mario Party.
Just give South Park RPG to anougher Developer and Publisher. THQ only knows wrestling games. THQ is goin go out of bussiness any day now.
2012 is the year of 3D. Delayed, DLC and Dumbed.
for a company that is suffering, what makes them believe that a South Park game will pull them from the brink of bankruptcy?
who gives a poop
Here's to hoping that this game comes out before THQ dies.
Ever since that black ops 2 trailer came out we've been getting "delayed to 2013" articles. lol
I want to see how a South Park game could be good, but i cannot.
Crap! Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, now this :(
now now sinsoftheblood... they ain't hurtin' nobody...
We don`t take kindly to people delaying games round here....
SinsOfTheBlood
Now Sins he aint hurt'n nobody.
SinsOfTheBlood We don't take kindly to people who don't take kindly around here...
