Resident Evil 6 to sell 7 million

Capcom projecting next survival horror game to become the best seller in company history, topping the Super Nintendo version of Street Fighter II; DMC to sell 2 million.

Capcom expects Resident Evil 6 to be the best-selling game in company history. The publisher today released presentation materials to go with its quarterly reports, in the process sharing sales expectations for a handful of upcoming games.

The publisher projects that Resident Evil 6 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC will sell 7 million copies worldwide. Currently, Capcom's best-selling title of all time is the Super Nintendo edition of Street Fighter II, which sold 6.3 million copies. The last main entry in the survival horror series, 2009's Resident Evil 5, sold 5.8 million units worldwide, good enough to be the company's second-best-selling game to date.

While nothing else on Capcom's slate of announced titles is expected to be in the same ballpark as Resident Evil 6, the publisher does have a number of games it projects will break the million-sold milestone. The new Devil May Cry game DMC is slated to launch sometime this year, and Capcom has it down to sell 2 million copies. Meanwhile, this month's new intellectual property Dragon's Dogma is expected to hit 1.5 million sold, while next year's Lost Planet 3 is projected to move 1.4 million copies.

I wonder if Capcom still thinks they'll squeeze 7 million units out of this bloody disappointment...Talk about seeing the glass half full.

What retarded Capcom fails to understand is why RE4 was such a masterpiece. Yes, the defining feature was that it was more action oriented, but what really made it so good was the excellent story and scary atmosphere IN ADDITION to the more action. RE5 has literally no parts that were scary in the slightest, the story was INCREDIBLY cheesy and chris redfield looked like he was on steroids. This is not to say that RE5 didn't have entertaining action, but there has to be a balance. Even though RE4 had the most action to date in the series it still made you feel like you were helpless and made you have to run and heart thumping moments like the enemies that you needed to shoot the plagas with the infrarred scopes. Bring back the "horror" in this series and I guarantee you it will triple the sales of RE5. RE5 only sold so much because of how truly spectacular RE4 was.

I hope it overpasses 10 million. The RE series has a needed a game to revive it back from the dead for a long time now and I think this is it!!

@Jimbowesker LOL, I seriously hope it bombs big time so that capcom will stop disgracing the series.

As long as there aren't any DLC and it's all in the disc then expect me to be one of the 7 million

The last Resident Evil is RE4.

The other "sequels" aren't Resident Evil.

That's not survival horror. That's just a silly action shooter "game". How can there be 7 million zombies who will buy....ooh I see. Well played Umbrella. *adjusts his monocle* quite.

I have to say I am happy for Capcom - but why are they still pushing Lost Planet? Two titles in the series and not a hit yet. Since they are so profitable I wish they would resurrect the Breath of Fire series! I would love to see a new, revamped BoF (all new - story, graphics, characters, etc.) more than some of the other lame games that are dragging them down.

The way Capcom are going, they're going to end up abbreviating Devil May Cry as DLC...

this 7 million estimates includes a collector's version, standard version, launch day dlc, gold version rehash with said dlc included (they can save money since it'll be the same shit on the standard disc, just unlocked, they like doing that), and of course post gold edition dlc, leading to a possible platinum all inclusive ultimate edition? dream on capcom.

What a great world it'd be if Capcom sold 0 instead. Maybe as a message against their recent B$ and immoral marketing decisions.

They're so proud of that 7 million figure, and i bet they're already planning on how to screw each of them out of more money.

Ahh but i guess that can't happen. Well at least they'll be short 1 when I don't buy it

hmm idk i bet  Dragon's Dogma can make it too at least 2mill but i think its far too early to say RE6 will sell 7mill. but heres hopeing for the best and that RE6 will put RE back on the map and lets survival horror games make a come back. i do think capcom has in in them to do good

RE6: Projected to sell 7 millions. Unfortunately, there are more than 7 million morons who don't care about a publisher's morally wrong marketing desicions.

I for one, will not be included in those projected numbers. A shame really, I liked RE.

Amidst a PR nightmare over SFxT and people left sour over Ultimate MVC3 and a THIRD version of SF4?  I wouldn't bet on it... though knowing gamers they'll just shut up and buy anyway regardless of how much they've complained.

Waiting for price drop on this one. I've had my fill of action from other big titles already. After seeing there latest product, Op ratcoon city, I just can't make myself fork out money for something thats so distant from the original which made them so great in the first place. :/

and one day I am going to fly using my arms. This is very unrealistic from Capcom and given their recent record of ripping off consumers, half-done HD remakes, and bad games (i.e Operation Racoon City and Resident Evil 5) I really don't see this selling 7 million. If I buy I will buy 2nd hand... Capcom's recent activity is shameful and no way are they getting my cash.

Now If they do sell pass 7 million mark then next title should put a 1000+ people

working on Outbreak file #3 or whatever they want to call it to be the best single/multiplayer survival horror game ever.

RE Outbreak have such a potential return to its survival horror genre but they released it too soon on PS2 and it never took off.

Now we have Xbox Live,PSN now they have another shot to make it again but they don't because all they want is unoriginal and sell and profit.

Now prove me wrong Capcom and that's not just for the sake of your company but also millions of fans.

You want STARS I'll give you STARS if you can take it Capcom.

@Good-Smurf yep ty nice to see someone who likes RE Outbreak  i played the hell out of 1 and 2 and to this day i feel it was the best online zombie game ever and it made players work together and think to make it out alive. i was hopeing for a big HD ver of RE Outbreak 1 n 2 on one disk or as DLC we know capcom can do it .

Slagar

I still love the series, but I do think it's lost its way, so I never bought 5, and am not likely to buy 6. To me, the RE:Remake for Gamecube was the series height. I played 4 on much later on Wii, so that could contribute to me enjoying it less than some fans, but even so I just didn't enjoy RE as an action game. It wasn't difficult, or scary. It lost its spunk.

eliebaz

to be quite honest after the drop in quality in Raccoon city this game should be great especially considering Capcom's high quality of games when it comes to the RE franchise, it's got the two coolest protagonists, that to me is already a formula for success ontop of the co-op gameplay that i think every game should have as it provides a more indepth game as you actually develop a sense of teamwork with your partner as well as an understanding that you wouldn't be able to develop with any AI so thank God for Capcom's Resident Evil series cannot wait

RabidBurp

 @eliebaz

There's also the fact that Capcom has 600+ people working on RE6. I will expect nothing less than a superb game of the highest quality, action-heavy or not.

september: far cry 3

october: fifa 13 and resident evil 6

november: AC3 and black ops 2

I'd say they should be able accomplish that goal, provided they market the game heavily, and I mean HEAVILY, and they might just sell as well as battlefield 3 or batman arkham city

I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. I can see REVI only selling half that amount.

RE doesn't exactly have the reputation it once had. 5 was rejected by the long time fans as a huge letdown and raccoon city followed that trend. Add in shaky business practices and incentives to wait a few months for more for less and I really doubt this will sell well.

There's a lot of comments about how they keep re-releasing different versions of their games. How could I forget? With 30 hrs of gameplay, I'm pretty sure I'll get RE6, but this time I'm going to wait for three reasons: 1: To see feedback on the game. 2: See if they pull any underhanded DLC rip offs, and 3: Wait until a "Gold" edition comes out at a reduced price with a DLC or two included. I bet a lot of other people are planning to do the same thing.

@wyan_ That's my plan too mate. Seems to be a fairly common opinion, with that in mind, I don't see how the flying F they plan to sell 7 million. Maybe if they avoid all of the aforementioned dirty tactics, produce a 10/10 game and then sell it at a cheaper price than expected they'll pull it off. Otherwise, it looks unlikely.

godzillavskong

 @wyan_

True. It's almost like you can't go out and buy a game on day one because you know there will be a ultimate version around the corner, with more additives. I'll wait like a lot of the others. MVC3 got me. I couldn't believe they released a ultimate version , with new characters, and didn't give current owners of the game the chance to download the new fighters! I think Capcom is one of the better publisher/developers out there, it just sucks when they do business practices like that.

Yeah...so a company who screws people with their DLC practices and constant Super, Ultra and Mega versions of their games [as if they couldn't have gotten it right the first time?] they think RE6 is going to outsell a game from the best console generation?? It's pretty arrogant of them to even think that......

Personally just for the reason above I'm not touching RE6, I've been burned a few too many times by Capcom so I say......shove off.....

Thats reaching imo. Im gonna buy this game. But Resident Evil is the only franchise i will buy from Capcom now. That DLC bullsh*t pissed me off. So i already know im gonna get cheated on the dlc with RE6. I refuse to buy any other game made by them after they admitted to screwing the fans over.

godzillavskong

Reminds me of the RE of old. My two favorite RE games were RE Code Veronica and RE4. I liked RE5 but I actually enjoyed the DLC, Desperate Measures, which put them back in the mansion, a lot better. Can't wait for this one!
