Rare Skylanders toys fetching over $900 on eBay

Collection of six silver and gold action figures drawing huge premium in online auction house with more than a day left to go.

How much is too much to pay for a collection of toys? eBay bidders for Activision's Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure have weighed in with their wallets and are offering close to $1,000 for rare Skylanders toys.

Bidding on an eBay listing (spotted by Game Informer) for a collection of six rare gold- and silver-hued Skylanders toys has reached $948 from 32 bids as of press time on Friday, with more than a day left to go. The characters themselves are available at retail for about $10, but not colored gold and silver.

The eBay seller is based out of the United Kingdom, with shipping fees estimated to cost around $50, before any applicable additional charges.

During its financial report last week, Activision said it had sold 20 million Skylanders toys. Additionally, a new Skylanders title--Skylanders Giants--is due out this fall. As its name suggests, that game will feature larger Skylanders characters, as well as some that light up.

Oh the one posted just shy of a month before his wonderful comment......well I posted one 4 days before he was smart enough to read the first post, he is still trying to read iamnessie's comment so I guess he will comment on my 2nd post before long and maybe even my 3rd one by the end of the year. I don't try to start arguments on a web site, but I am not going to tolerate some immature idiot calling me ignorant when they clearly have no idea who I am or simply anything what so ever about me. If people just have rude and stupid things to say they need to keep it to themselves. This is for people to comment on the article at hand and not to trash other individuals on their thoughts. The rule everyone should live by is to respect people if they want respect in return, but thank you for pointing out that I had the old post that was in all caps, I almost forgot about it! You have a great day!

Wow I used caps on 2 words in the entire post and you want to call me ignorant.....Only a ignorant retard would even find anything at all good in this article. If all you know how to do is worry about someone using a cap on a couple of words you need to get a life and leave posts to people with some sense in there brains.

lol reminds me of pokemon cards back in the day. My local market was selling shiney ones for like 100 quid...I remember seeing that dragon being sold for 175 quid.

I have never even heard of this game, or what its about.

@Killer6b9 Using all caps doesn't get your point across. It makes you look ignorant. On topic, this is ridiculous, but incredibly awesome for the people selling.

Yep was just in the store last night and seen almost every single one of these toys on the self including the start off pack with the game, pad, and 3 figures.........who wants to shell out a grand for them???? I will go buy them today and you will have them over night express delivery.......just what I thought NO ONE! Wish I had money to just burn on retarded nonsense....

Surely an idiot WOULDNT buy ('stock up') on these figures from the high st stores and then sell them off individually on ebay... Im surprised all this is legal... XD ...until you find out that the toy company have decided to reproduce some of the rare figures, theres money to be made! Not that I could be bothered doing any of it myself. I almost feel sorry for those that are actually spending £100+ on these individual out of the box figures, used or not, just to please their kids.. or themselves, lol

i work at Toys R Us and we gave those figures away for free when people bought the starter kit. Something free went for 2 months worth of my checks.

    @SnakeEyesX80
It's cool, the money part that is. Don't you think it's interesting how something worth only $10 can get bumped to $1000 just based on popular demand ?

    That's a 90% increase in value!

  • SnakeEyesX80

    Posted Mar 6, 2012 8:13 am GMT

Why are adults buying these things? I was at the store over the weekend and there was two 20 somethings upset because the store hadn't received their shipment of Skylander toys. This is Beanie Babies madness all over again. lol!

    Posted Feb 28, 2012 11:07 pm GMT

Skylanders should have had the figures be more like action figures the kids could play with away from the video game. The chip that is read by that light up base should have been placed in something that could be separated from the actual figure.

    Posted Feb 17, 2012 9:48 pm GMT

lol and from the looks of it all you use the toy for is to spawn in the character that you are going to play and you use the controller to play the game lol so really those stupid toys aren't really needed once you bring int eh character that you are going to play has so pretty much this game could have been made without those stupid toys

I might be wrong but that is what it looks like

and there are far better games out there for me to spend my money on and I can't see why this game is so popular

  • shadowhunter0

    Posted Feb 17, 2012 9:42 pm GMT

and we all know that they are going to milk the franchise to death like they always do and are going to release a new version every year like what they are doing with cod

It's crazy to think about people believing any of the figures for this game are worth almost $1,000. I'm still amazed by how commercially successful this game has been, I would have never predicted that.
