  • Lego Kidsfest: Definitely Worth the Price of Admission
You might be inclined to believe Lego KidsFests is just going to be another marketing ploy by this company that seems to keep finding ways to suck those dollar bills out of your wallet, but let me tell you why you, and your building child, will experience so much more than a cruise through the company store.
  • Mayim Bialik, You Disappoint Me
Mayim Bialik is best known for her child acting career as the title character on Blossom. She currently plays the nerdy Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory and holds a real-life PhD in neuroscience. I really want to adore her, but then she had to go ruin it all by practicing unsafe parenting.
  • Parenting and the Dark Side of Sports
Shortly after the Mitchell Report was released in December 2007, Jim Gullo noticed that his then 7-year-old son, Joe, was arranging his growing baseball card collection in a disturbing way: The boy made a pile for steroid abusers. The challenge Gullo faced then to reconcile his love of the game with the Steroid Era in baseball is similar to the one I now face with football and concussions.
  • Review: Stripped-Down Porsche Cayman R Performs Like a World-Class Athlete
In this unprecedented age of obscene horsepower and affordable performance, the Porsche Cayman R is the Jenyne Butterfly of the sports car world. Who is Jenyne Butterfly? Look her up, preferably not at work. At 2,855 pounds (or 2,910 pounds with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission), the Cayman R is the lightest road car built by Porsche.Ms. Butterfly's ...
  • Star Wars Week: Five Great Star Wars Cross Stitch Designs
I'm a big fan of cross stitch, but most kits on the market aren't to my taste. Kittens, cherubs and country scenes are all very well and good, but not something I want to spend hours and hours carefully stitching. Discovering Etsy has been a Godsend for me as it allows me to buy cross stitch patterns that are to my taste and (vitally) as the patterns are PDF files, I don't have that pesky "international shipping charge" to worry about that pushes up the cost so much for me in the UK. Here are some of my favorite Star Wars themed patterns that I have either completed, or that are on my to-do list.

  • Star Wars Week: The Quest for a Star Wars Barrette
Ever since my daughter had hair long enough to pull back, I have been on a quest for the elusive Star Wars barrette. As you can imagine, most Star Wars official apparel is shirts and clothing for boys, with little to none out there for little girls. I looked on Etsy, Amazon, and eBay to find just the right one that is both cute for a toddler girl but still Star Wars-y, but with very little luck.

  • Kickstarter Alert: The Antler Boy by Jake Parker
Okay, I wasn't sure if I had time to write about this Kickstarter project, and I know I'm just contributing more to your Kickstarter FOMO, but if you're a fan of Jake Parker you should at least hear about this project. Parker is the creator of Missile Mouse and has also done a lot of other short comics stories that have appeared in various anthologies, some now out of print. His Kickstarter campaign is for a hardcover collection of many of these stories ¿ and because he's already blown way past his original goal, he's been able to throw a lot of nice bonus rewards, including a brand new 18-page story.
  • Star Wars Week: An Interview From a Galaxy Far, Far Away
During a visit to to San Francisco to tour Skywalker Ranch, I met some of Skywalker's technical magicians and previewed the Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace reboot in 3D with a group of bloggers and their kids. Afterwards, we were invited to sit down with sound engineer Matt Wood, video game producer Craig Derrick, and concept model artist John Goodson to ask them questions about their work on The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Kinect.
  • Unleashing the Force in my Star Wars Geekiness
GeekMom, it's all your fault. I had kept much of my affinity for Star Wars tempered all these years. In fact, my husband didn't even realize the wealth of seemingly useless Star Wars knowledge in my brain until I started writing for you. Suddenly, I had a circle of colleagues, soon to be friends, with whom I could dish about the latest Star Wars trendy news. It's been wonderful!
